How I flipped two Southern Trumpians on the Caravan "Issue"

Two Trump supporters got into my rideshare car and were talking about the caravan. "What are we gonna do when these crooks in the 7000 person caravan reach our border?"

I replied: "This may not be what you're expecting, but everyone knows crooks are lazy. Crooks ain't gonna walk no 2,500 additional miles under a hot Mexican sun. So I say anyone who makes it we can process their application under due process and the rule of law."

One southern Trumpeter laughed, and then admitted crooks are lazy. The he said, "yeah, if they make it that far, I suppose we can just let them all in."

Note: by imagining the actual journey involved here, along with its risks and consequences over 2,500 miles, these couple of people otherwise disposed to a fearful militarized response flipped to an open borders position, whereas i had only advocated for due process (where some would likely get in, others not). The flip occurred, imo, because fear of crooks was removed and the frame altered so that they had to think about human beings walking 2,500 miles in the hot sun, and what that means...

No fear, no Trumpian positions.

The amount of suffering must be outrageous and rump and folks are being are too paranoid again over nothing, this is nothing compared to the number of persons who have come over illegally during the months that rump has been president compared to when Obama has been president. rump is trying to use the immigrant issue as a wedge issue and it's kind of a non issue, when you compare that jobs are everywhere, which refutes one of their key issues against illegal immigration, in that it takes jobs away.

If anything, fruits and other crops are spoiling in the fields of our farmers. Lots of goods, produce, and other items have gotten more expensive because beside rotting in the fields, those items picked or harvested are being picked and/or harvested at more expensive rates. The stupid tariffs too, are not helping goods and services being produced in this country, and so inflation will continue to rise/increase.

And good point: Death Dealin' Don deals predominantly in fear. He has from the very beginning. He's extremely dangerous.

I never even thought of that. I just might try this on my canvassing duties.

Crooks steal because they're too lazy to work. (Tools get stolen to be sold, not used).

TrumPutin depends on raging, unthinking fear of "other". You took that away for those two folks.

That's what all the 9/11 hijackers did. Flew in, took a few lessons that didn't include landing and carried out the attack. You might get a few petty criminals in the caravan, but even a Trumphumper shouldn't be afraid of a shoplifter.
