Trump's tied to Russian organized crime through Semion Mogilevich; and Robert Mueller, in 2010

Last edited Tue Oct 23, 2018, 01:02 AM - Edit history (3)

set up a "Threat Focus" group directed at the activities of Mogilevich. Bruce Ohr and Lisa Page, both objects of Trump's ire, were also working against Mogilevich.

I can't imagine that, in addition to collusion (with Putin allies) and obstruction, Mueller isn't investigating Trump's ties to Russian organized crime. And the FBI he led for more than a decade is in a position to do so.

The first link is to a Robert Mueller speech in 2011, in the archives of the FBI. The second is to an Aug 2018 article by Craig Unger at Just Security.

https://archives.fbi.gov/archives/news/speeches/the-evolving-organized-crime-threat

In the past nine years, we in the FBI have shifted from a law enforcement agency to a national security service that is threat-driven and intelligence-led.

With organized crime, we are using intelligence to expand upon what we already know, from phone, travel, and financial records to extensive biographies of key players. And we are sharing this information with our partners around the world.

But we are also building a long-term strategy for dismantling these enterprises. Last year, we set up two units, called Threat Focus Cells, to target Eurasian organized crime. The first focuses on the Semion Mogilevich Organization; the second on the Brotherís Circle enterprise.

For those of you not familiar with either group, their memberships are large, their reach is global, and their scope of operations is broad, from weapons and drug trafficking to high-stakes fraud and global prostitution. If left unchecked, the resulting impact to our economy and our security will be significant. Indeed, Semion Mogilevich is on the FBI Top Ten Most Wanted List, and he will remain so until he is captured.

These Threat Focus Cells include FBI personnel from the Criminal, Cyber, Counterintelligence, and International Operations divisions. They also include our partners in the law enforcement and intelligence communities, both at home and abroad.

Amidst President Donald Trumpís ongoing threats to revoke security clearances from various critics, perhaps the most mysterious person on his enemy list is Bruce Ohr, the Justice Department lawyer who has repeatedly been a Trump target for reasons that have never been clearly articulated. Ohr has never criticized Trump as far as anyone is aware, and has worked at the Justice Department as an award-winning civil servant for nearly thirty years in Republican and Democratic administrations alike.

It has been noted that Ohr had ties to the notorious Christopher Steele dossier and that his wife worked for Fusion GPS, which hired Steele, a former British agent, to investigate Trump. But there is quite likely another reason which could trouble Trump even more: Ohrís job in the Justice Department involved facing off against Russian crime boss Semion Mogilevich whose operatives have been using Trump branded properties to launder millions of dollars for more than three decades. If the FBIís investigations turn toward Trumpís ties to Russian organized crime, which is entirely foreseeable, the president may be interested in trying to delegitimize those efforts as he has attempted with other aspects of special counsel Robert Muellerís probe. What the public should also understand is how Mogilevich has served as an agent for Vladimir Putinís efforts in the United States and abroad.

If one tracks Trumpís ties to Russia, the name Mogilevich pops up more than any single name, beginning in 1984 when alleged Mogilevich operative David Bogatin bought five condos in Trump Tower for $6 million in cash. Over the years, no fewer than 1,300 Trump-branded condos were sold in all cash purchases to anonymous shell companiesóthe two criteria that set off alarm bells among anti-money laundering authorities. In 2002, after Trump had gone belly up in Atlantic City, Bayrock, a real estate development company that allegedly had ties to Mogilevich, moved into Trump Tower and partnered with Trumpóin the process bailing out the bankrupt real estate mogul and putting him in a position to eventually run for the presidency.

And Ohr is not the only Mogilevich specialist who has been the subject of Trumpís ire. Last September, former FBI lawyer Lisa Page was fired from her position on Muellerís probe into the Trump-Russia scandal after anti-Trump text messages exchanged between her and Peter Strzok came to light. (Strzok, a member of Muellerís team with whom Page was having a relationship, was also fired.) However, little attention was paid to what may well be the most interesting item on Pageís resumeóher considerable experience prosecuting money laundering cases involving Russian organized crime, including working with the FBIís task force in Budapest to prosecute a money-laundering case against Dmitry Firtash, the Ukrainian oligarch who partnered with both Paul Manafort and Semion Mogilevich.

1. Yes, boss of bosses, most dangerous mobster in the world

Mogilivitch, a brilliant economist turned mobster, lives openly in Moscow. Either Putin tolerates Mogilivitch, or Mogilivitch tolerates Putin.

8. It will be rooted out at various levels over a number of years and decades

much like the Venona project, 1940s to 1984. It is only on the surface a fight against organized crime. With the elements of foreign sovereign states and international corporations involved, it is a counterintelligence investigation. That will take considerable time to manage.

18. I kinda suspect it's that second option

as far as who is tolerating whom.

6. This is why it's wrong for people to think he's been taking too long. This must be

an incredibly difficult job.

7. two questions

Does Mueller's team have enough string to tie all this together?
Do any members of the team watch Fox?

I look forward to the day when the mob is kicked out of our federal government, at least.

9. I think Mueller is working with intelligence agencies in allied countries

to help tie this all together -- as the article says he was doing in 2011 with regard to organized crime.

Hopefully between all of them they have enough string.

10. Wow - this is blockbusting!

Now we know why the whole GOP has a target on Mueller's back. We are at war with evil. Godspeed Mr. Mueller and team.

11. Thank you.

I keep reading postings on DU concerning dRumpfs early years, circa 1980s. 1984 nails it down for me.

He is in the RICO law. The relationship/s described from the 80s and actions come together to what we have now.

You've given me connections to current day. NO wonder he doesn't want to release his tax returns.

To me, he is near game end. At least, I hope so.

and to notice how they're tied together.

That's on top of what we already know in the past 2 years.

12. and we keep learning more fully why Trump hates Ohr.

The media only alludes to superficial reasons, if they do mention any at all.

Gawd it must be fairly fraught to be the publisher of WaPo or NYT today.
