this caravan thing has to be the first damn investigation. Someone connected to this administration or Russians have orchestrated it.
How can this happen twice, first when Trump was trying to get funding for his wall now right before the mid-terms this stinks big time.

(35,325 posts)but I hear what were Democrats now backing Trump and his racist agenda. So is it against the law to think we may not win.
If anything my post should motivate people to get out and vote. I didn't think Hillary would win in Ohio and was met by the same
BS about we have this in the bag. Well who won in Ohio in 2016. Sorry if the truth offends anyone.

(58,785 posts)or some other source of RW propaganda?
The Democrats who were going to back Trump already did. I've been avoiding propaganda and checking honorable sites, and they report that some of those who were once Democrats but voted Trump in 2016 are coming back, or at least abandoning Trump.

(58,785 posts)you associate with but as a national trend. This is why we need our schools to teach people to know how to reason, not just react.
I recently tried to gently suggest to someone that milk boxes that "smelled funny" in his school lunches was probably not the cause of his pancreatic cancer, but I know he'll die believing a corrupt school system serving "the corporations" killed him.

(2,484 posts)I don't know what the right dose of optimism vs. pessimism is to keep voters from getting complacent and thinking they don't have to turn out, but I do know that nobody else has figured it out either. Maybe I'm just jumpy any time I see eerie parallels to the discussions that were happening in 2016. We are even quoting statistical predictions as gospel again without the caveats that everyone needs to vote.

So, I'll put MY efforts and those of all the COMMITTED DUERS against your promotion of demoralized "reality" ANY DAY of the week.
When I see these kind of "downer" posts, I really have to ask: what is the purpose? It sure as hell isn't helping.

(2,484 posts)Reading what you are doing to help just made my day, and it is appreciated more than I can convey.
However, my point stands. Being pessimistic just to be a wet-blanket is unnecessary. But acting as if it is a done deal is exactly what can throw off the statistical models used in polling. Particularly with those who don't have personal transportation, or with limited resources, who tend to be young and vote with us.

and then there is the issue of attacks on the election system and voter suppression.

(3,255 posts)The racist anti immigration die hards are really solid votes for Republicans and I don't think it's going to change any "independent" voters. It just gives the fascist wannabees more red meat for thir base, but they are just preaching to the choir. They already have their vote and they turn out already.I think that the 24 year long Repbulican run is clutching at straws as they have painted themselves in the corner and their base is dying, literally.

(35,325 posts)like this you all go bonkers because I have doubts about taking the House. I was flamed in 2016 for saying Hillary wouldn't take Ohio.
Well I rest my case.

(34,062 posts)but shouldn't we be aware if that many people are so desperate to find safe haven that they are joining them?
I'm not going to blame the mainstream news for making us aware of a phenomenon that humane people should have been aware of (any more than I'm going to pretend the first pictures of children in cages were from the Obama era).
Sunshine is good. It can definitely be uncomfortable when the sunshine discloses things that do not fit our narrative - but the solution is to address it and acknowledge blame on our part (if appropriate) not to shove it back under the rug. Our record on immigration, as Ameriocans - regardless of political party, is pretty bad. We don't have the high moral ground from which to condemn Trump - but the fact that our side also made mistakes is not a reason to blame the media for exposing such matters at politically inconvenient times.

(35,325 posts)Democrats gain control of the House. I think it will motivate voters more to get off their ass and vote
from my comments rather saying it's in the bag we got it won. Making crazy predictions of a 60 seat majority
like some I have read on DU will give people the feeling their vote doesn't matter.
