"$100 million landed in US accounts just as a smiling Mike Pompeo landed in Riyadh"

Something does not add up here. Saudis announced delivery of this previously pledged money on Aug. 16. US welcomed and on Aug. 17 said it was a “hard contribution” (ie paid) and not a pledge.

Saudi Arabia promised US $100 million to stabilize Syria. The money landed in US accounts just as a smiling Mike Pompeo landed in Riyadh to ask MBS about Jamal Khashoggi. ⁦@NYTBen⁩

Further to this: #US official now says “hard contribution, not pledge” of $100 million announced in August did not mean actual money in bank.
Transfer of actual cash from #SaudiArabia not formalized until Friday, two months after announcement.

Mohammad bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, known colloquially as MbS, is the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, also serving as Deputy Prime Minister, President of the Council for Economic and Development Affairs and Minister of Defense – the world's youngest at the time of his appointment.

12. Note that he "allowed" woment to drive instead of giving them the right to drive?

That way he can dis-allow their driving priviliges at any time. How paternalistic.

There is a difference between "allowing" and "giving," and it makes me crazy how no one is pointing that out.

which tried to paint him as a "progressive" on women's issues but don't recall any mention of the male guardian rule/law that all women are subjected to.

I had a queasy feeling then about this guy. Young, relatively good looking seeking to be a champion of women in a patriarchal system.

Sure he is.

The highlight was all those men he had arrested and were being held at a fancy hotel (?) as if to prove he's a reformist. I haven't checked their status lately.

Cold blooded bastard.

.... was the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia's "bragging that he had Kushner "in his pocket,"

Kushner, President Donald Trump's son-in-law and senior adviser, had access to the briefing, a highly sensitive intelligence update meant to be seen by only the president and his top advisers, before being stripped of his top-secret security clearance last month.
Before losing that access, Kushner was particularly interested in information about the Middle East, The Intercept reported, citing several former White House and US government officials.

When Salman became the heir to the throne in June, the daily briefing began to focus on shifting political allegiances in Saudi Arabia and named several Saudi royals opposing the crown prince, the Intercept report said.

Kushner then made a surprise trip to Riyadh in October, reportedly staying up until 4 a.m. with Salman to discuss strategy.
Several sources told The Intercept that after the meeting, Salman told close confidants that Kushner had spilled the names of the Saudi royals "disloyal" to the prince — something Kushner's camp denies strongly.

Salman told the United Arab Emirates crown prince about the meeting with Kushner, bragging that he had Kushner "in his pocket," The Intercept reported, citing "a source who talks frequently to confidants of the Saudi and Emirati rulers."

And of course that includes Kushner's sharing of intel with the Saudis, and you have to wonder if the bailing him out with 1.1B on 666 5th Ave. was Saudi influenced even if it came from a Qatar source.

to convince them, one way or the other, to drop the whole Khashoggi thing and let it go down the rabbit hole.
Nothing more. This administration couldn't give a shit what they do to political threats. They just want it to go away and if they can get money on the side so much the better.
