So much of where we are right now is because of Nader's 3rd-party run in 2000

Ari Melber is an idiot for putting him on the air and giving him a platform.

Please... sit this one out, Ralph. You've done enough damage to the Republic.

21. Here is why Ralph Nader caused a national shit storm

When it was OBVIOUS to Nader that he was NOT going to win anything, he was presented with the opportunity to release his delegates to vote their discretion. He REFUSED to do so. No less than his friend, Robert Reich, said that Ralph's ego got in his way of doing the right thing.

He had no chance of winning, yet could not see past his own selfish ego . . .

You had your chance to prove your character, Ralph. Now go fuck yourself.

the 2000 election. He drew 95,000 votes in Florida, where the final margin was 5,000 votes.

More than 50,000 legitimate voters were purged in Florida. Al Gore would have won easily if that weren't the case. Ralph Nader was an asshole and an egomaniac, but Jeb Bush and the other Republican officials' illegal acts was the real difference. What pisses me off is that it is 18 years later, and that problem has only gotten worse.

50. Jeb Bush and the others were GOP. NADER was the only PROGRESSIVE who single-handedly

took enough votes -- 95,000 -- to hand the election over to Bush.

Other progressives, such as Michael Moore, begged him to not campaign in the swing states, but the swing states were where Nader focused his efforts. He was TRYING to hand the election to Bush, and he even acknowledged that at the time. He called Bush and Gore Tweedledee and Tweedledum, and said it would be fine if Bush won.

We expect GOP to do everything they can, including cheating to win. But Nader was supposed to be a progressive, and he betrayed us.

28. get a load of this interview, it's a peach.

They like to stand on a corner and whistle at a pretty lady. They like to flirt. But they can’t do that anymore. Multiply that across the continuum. You can’t say this about that, and you can’t say that about this. And the employer tells you to hush. And perhaps your spouse tells you to hush, and your kids tell you to hush. So they have a whole language that they inherited — ethnic words like Polack. A lot of these people grew up on ethnic jokes, which are totally taboo now. Do you know, Lydia, there are no ethnic-joke books in bookstores anymore?

There used to be?

All the time. There were Negro-joke books, Jewish-joke books, Polish-joke books, Italian-joke books. They used ethnic jokes to reduce tension in the 1930s, ’40s, ’50s. And they’d laugh at each other’s jokes and hurl another one. But it still flows through ethnic America, you know. There are hundreds of things that people would like to say. So here’s this guy — he doubles down on them, he blows their minds. So that’s the first way he got their attention.

Oh and ... of course he gets to millennials..

You see it on campuses — what is it called, trigger warnings? It’s gotten absurd. I mean, you repress people, you engage in anger, and what you do is turn people into skins that are blistered by moonbeams. Young men now are far too sensitive because they’ve never been in a draft. They’ve never had a sergeant say, “Hit the ground and do 50 push-ups and I don’t care if there’s mud there.”

Oh the trials and tribulations of not being able to buy books with ethnic jokes, and whistling at women in the street, and all the rest of it.

Amazing interview.

The trials and tribulations of "economic anxiety".

The best way to deal programs that want to encourage division and controversy against Democrats, especially this close to the midterms...........

switch the channels. If their ratings go down enough, perhaps they will get the hint.

Regardless, don't let them get your goat, and keep your and on the ball which is GOTV

41. The continued misinformation regarding the 2000 election is astounding. Nader is not to blame.

--In 2000, The SOS of Florida, Katherine Harris, was also co-chair of the G W Bush campaign in FL
https://www.nytimes.com/2000/11/14/us/counting-vote-secretary-state-florida-official-has-dual-roles-maelstrom.html

--Sequoia Voting Systems purposely used a different stock of paper for the punch cards, knowing they would cause problems such as hanging chads
https://www.wired.com/2007/08/sequoia-voting/
Rather and his producers spoke with several former workers of Sequoia who revealed that in 2000 the company changed the paper stock it used for punch cards to paper made by Boise Cascade and that they knew before the election that the punch cards that Sequoia was producing would cause problems. In fact, pre-election testing by Sequoia showed that the cards were not punching cleanly and that dangling chads were going to be a likely problem in the election.

--Katherine Harris purged over 180,000 ballots that were mostly for Gore, due to the hanging chad problem
https://www.gregpalast.com/election-stolen-heres/
In 2000, in Florida, GOP Secretary of State Katherine Harris officially rejected 181,173 ballots, as “spoiled” because their chads were hung and other nonsense excuses. Those ballots overwhelmingly were marked for Al Gore. The exit polls included those 181,173 people who thought they had voted – but their vote didn’t count. In other words, the exit polls accurately reflected whom the voters chose, not what Katherine Harris chose.

There were also massive purges of the voter rolls in FL -- mostly African American voters.
---------------
Karl Rove really pulled off a double whammy - he managed to steal the election for Dubya AND demonize one of the greatest fighters of all time for justice against corporations, namely, Ralph Nader.

ballots where gore's bubble was filled in and they wrote gore's name in...so obviously the intent was to vote for gore....mostly in black neighborhoods

amazing how after all this time people here on du can't understand, gore didn't lose...we simply failed to do an accurate count

Yes, we were all focussed on the "undervotes," caused by hanging chads, and the like. I've never heard anyone analyzing the "overvotes," ballots with more than one indication of a presidential choice. I had always assumed that there were useless, because they contained two different votes for two different candidates. I was wrong:

Those votes are not ambiguous. When you see Gore picked and then Gore written in, there's not a question in your mind who this person was voting for. When you go through those, they're unambiguous: Bush got some of those votes, but they were overwhelmingly for Gore. For example, in an analysis of the 2.7 million votes that had been cast in Florida's eight largest counties, The Washington Post found that Gore's name was punched on 46,000 of the over-vote ballots it, while Bush's name was marked on only 17,000

49. I think we can go even further - everything is the fault of those damned liberals

What we need is an understanding that we have a far right party and a center right party - there is no need in America in the 21st century for any hint of liberalism or socialism. That would solve absolutely 0% of our problems. The only way we can work at fixing our problems, or, lets be realistic, slowing Americas descent, is if every liberal gives up that delusion and accepts that the only path forward is a centrist or center right position. If you don't support that position you are condemning america to more Trumpism.
