Watergate attorney says Trump will 'undoubtedly be impeached'

Watergate attorney says Trump will 'undoubtedly be impeached'
By Aris Folley - 09/11/18 10:37 AM EDT

Andrew Hall, who served as an attorney for former President Richard Nixon’s top adviser in the Watergate scandal, said in a recent interview that President Trump will "undoubtedly be impeached.”

In a recent interview with the Independent, Hall, who had served as counsel for John D. Ehrlichman, Nixon’s former senior adviser for domestic affairs who was later convicted of conspiracy, obstruction of justice and perjury, said he is watching history repeat itself with Trump as more of his associates become caught up in special counsel Robert Mueller's probe into Russian election interference.

“The coverup is always worse than the crime,” the attorney told the British publication. “And this one is very shady. We have a sitting president who will undoubtedly be impeached.”

Hall’s remarks arrives as more bombshell revelations emerge surrounding the release of veteran journalist Bob Woodward’s book about the Trump administration, including the news of an alleged mock interview former Trump attorney John Dowd arranged with the president on Jan. 27 to help Trump prepare for a possible sit-down with Mueller.

1. The crimes are every bit as bad as the cover-up

In his case.

2. "The coverup is always worse than the crime"

Except in this case I suspect the crimes may be significantly worse than the coverup.

Edited to add: lol, beat me to it

3. I have no doubt he will be impeached

If the Democrats can regain control of the house is November. My question is, will the Senate convict? It seems the Senate is completely broken these days.

5. watergate attorney misreads the politics dynamics of the republican party.

what he's saying is that donnie's case is markedly worse than nixon's, but it doesn't follow that today's congress is capable of impeaching a president that manifestly deserves it.

no president has even been impeached by a congress of the same party, even in less partisan times.

many republican representatives are in heavily gerrymandered, very safe districts and as such, the general election is a foregone conclusion, so only the republican primary matters. and there, opposing donnie could be political suicide given how rabid his supporters are. same goes for many red states.

it's always tough for a party to remove its own leader, but it's particularly tough for republicans under the present circumstances.

this is why donnie's getting away with murder.
