Ted Cruz warns that Beto O'Rourke will bring 'tofu, silicon and dyed hair' to Texas

MARTIN CIZMAR
08 SEP 2018 AT 20:12 ET

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) told a rally crowd in Humble, Texas that his opponent would turn Texas into California by bringing “tofu, silicon and dyed hair,” according to a Reuters reporter.

James Oliphant of Reuters was at the rally, where Cruz was asked repeatedly about a White House aide’s comments suggesting that he could lose to Democratic opponent Beto O’Rourke because he is unlikable. Cruz refused to comment claiming he had not yet read the report.

During his stump speech, the allegedly unlikeable Republican took on dyed hair—his own wife, Heidi, having presumably developed naturally blonde hair following college.

Ted Cruz Reportedly Thinks Democrats Want to Bring Tofu and Dyed Hair to Texas

by Tamar Auber | Sep 8th, 2018, 8:51 pm

Sen. Ted Cruz wants more than a strong border wall to stop people from crossing the border illegally. He also thinks Texas should remain relatively tofu free.

Cruz is currently running against Democratic challenger Beto O’Rourke to keep his Senate seat.

He is also in a fight, apparently, to keep things Democrats like — like tofu and dyed hair — out of his home state of Texas.

Speaking to a rally in Humble, Texas, according to Reuters’ James Oliphant, Cruz warned Democrats want to turn Texas into California with their “tofu, silicon, and dyed hair.”

Not to say that Cruz has already lost the tofu battle, but Texas already has over 20 Whole Foods throughout the state.

Now I see it must be silicon/tech. But I don't get why he's implying that's a bad thing. Many cities in Texas have gone to great lengths to try and attract high tech companies.

32. True. My ex-husband spent far more money on his hair...

... on a daily basis than I ever did, even counting the fact I used far more shampoo/conditioner.

Of course, I'm a ginger so could never really experiment with different colors and still be able to go back to natural easily. My natural color doesn't come in a bottle, and even now that some of my strands are coming in white, so far they're blending well. And when you wear it long and are practiced at quick updos and braids, you don't need hair product.

His mother beat both of us hands-down -- a suitcase that would have carried all I needed for a weekend trip, or one of two I would have packed for a road project where I'd have access to laundry facilities, was for her makeup alone. I don't judge, to each their own and she wore it well. It was just an interesting contrast.

She still liked me, probably because when I came home to find she'd rearranged... my... entire... kitchen... I saw she'd also been cooking and was apparently planning on doing all the cooking her entire visit, calmed my immediate instinctive rage, and said everything smelled lovely. I knew which battles were worth picking, even if after she left I spent a day putting everything back.

59. Really. I had a dozen of the new "integrated circuits" from Texas Instruments

in 1963, when I was an electonics engineering major. We had a visit at my college from a TI engineer, who talked about these new devices, so I begged for a few for a project. A week later, there was a box with a dozen of them in my dorm mailbox. Texas has always had high tech industries. TI also invented the handheld calculator. Cruz is a moron!

Besides, if he's talking about silcon(e), there are more augmented body parts in Texas than in most other states, I'm absolutely certain.

Tofu is everywhere.

48. Not necessarily.

I'm 10 years older than Cruz. I have a lot less gray hair than that, and I don't dye my hair. He has more gray than my mom had when she died at 78. There's a lot of genetics involved in when and how quickly one's hair turns gray. I used to know someone who was solid gray before he was 35, as was his fraternal twin brother.

I hear people are demanding straws and boycotting restaurants that don't provide them.

A resistance is developing of people who will carry their own straws with them in defiance of all those doing the same thing to help the environment.

Designer reusable drinking straws are already on the market, of course, but I see a problem in how to let people know when it's an anti-liberal anti-environmentalism statement they're sucking on.

39. It's not really even "new"

Tech has been there as a very powerful driver of the TX economy, outside of oil and cattle, since at least the '50s. See "Texas Instruments" and later Compaq Computer Corp.

That tech is what brought hundreds of thousands people to the Houston area, the population increase of which booted my city (Philly) out of being the 4th largest city. And of course the Johnson Space Center is there, so a parallel type of tech was going on many decades before the NoVA area started attracting that type of brain-trust. TX was actually able to attract the refugees from what eventually became the loss of a huge tech industry along the Route-128 corridor of Massachusetts when Digital Equipment Corp. (DEC) shut down after it merged with Compaq. MA is trying to resurrect that now.

But see when this was all going on, Carnival Cruz was a Canadian citizen.

46. The earlier tech explosion was a boom then too

particularly in the '90s! What had also happened over the past couple decades though, as an attempt to diversify, is that there has been a biotech boom down there too.

True story but my dad used to work for the VA (before it became a department) as one of their early computer programmers (trained in the '50s in COBOL when it first came out). They were about to move his whole team down to Austin in the early '70s and we were literally researching the area and planning to move. They ditched the plan at the last minute (am guessing politics happened) but the hustle and flow was strong.

I think it is all partly because the state is sortof in the geographic center of the country and there is plenty of land there to build on for cheap.

And yes, Cruz is always asleep at the wheel but he is also an entitled jerk too.

Much of the "IBM-compatible" PC industry that sprung forth in the '80s to compete with IBM's branded machines as a cheaper alternative, were located there (and IBM even had a factory there to make some of their PCs in addition to factories in other locations).

The Democrats, Cruz tells the crowd, want to turn Texas into California with their “tofu, silicon, and dyed hair.”

what? First of all, Rafael, I bet Texans would prefer California over Canada. Secondly, you have no business talking about anybody's hair, and lastly, in 6 years, wtf have you done for Texas?
It's all been about you, Rafael ... never Texas

He shot a gun with bacon on it, he read green eggs on the senate floor in a ridiculous filibuster, somehow convinced the House to make a huge mistake and shut down the government in 2013, and lost the primary to Donald Effing Trump. Let’s re-elect this winner, Texas!

Oh - let’s not forget the phone banking for a guy that called him Lying Ted, called his wife ugly and said his dad killed JFK, and that he’s not even born in America.

67. There is our idiot senator, using his gutter mouth finally...

I Posted several days ago...

1. Cruz is nothing but a low down, disgusting weasel...
I wouldn't be surprised if he (cruz) started accusing Mr. O’Rourke of crimes against humanity and other outlandish claims. Just wait, cruz will start getting desperate as the elections loom ever closer and closer.
cruz plays dirty w/ his facts and thinks he is god's gift to everyone (he's the expert man!). His personality is dirty inside and out, and one of the most unpopular politicians in Washington DC. This is why he hasn't really succeeded in spearheading any major legislation, no one wants to have anything to do w/ cruz.
Hopefully the good folks in TX will vote cruz out of office, and put in someone who will work w/ whomever to get good legislation passed.

Ted Cruz if all he can come up w/ is arguments against tofu and the like, it figures...scumbag's bag of tricks to try and remain in Congress consists of attack politics and is idiotic and childish to the extreme...I got a feeling that Mr. Beto O’Rourke will rise up against this nonsense and put cruz back into his dog cage...

Cruz nails it! It's the Tofu Rebellion that's got Texans' panties in a wad. Go for it, Teddy. Wail against... TOFU!

80. That's better than

Putting babies in cages and abusing children, voting to enrich the wealthiest people in this country by robbing millions of their health care, Voting to protect trump , putin and russian mob bosses, ignoring the rule of law. voting for a russian connected and corrupt judge for the Supreme Court , taking away women's rights, voting rights, and doing nothing to trump while he corrupts this government now. I'd say no hair dye and tofu don't even come close to being rated. Taking money funneled through the NRA or other wealthy donors as a bribe is. Ted has already helped them hurt Medicaid and Medicare , and now want to destroy Social Security, so why would anyone vote for such a corrupt liar is puzzling. The most hated person in Congress, and for very good reasons.
