I suspect that something's going on and it's not good.

Yesterday, I was trying to access the Huffington Post main page and kept getting a 404 message. No such server. Today, was trying to return to the "Latest Threads" tab on DU and I kept getting the message that there was no such location. These issues each lasted for several minutes. It's never happened before, in my experience.

It's possible that hackers are penetrating secure sites. I suggest that readers be wary of any anomalies and post them when appropriate.

1. I access the Huffington Post multiple times a day including yesterday.

I have experienced no such problem. Perhaps it is your server.

3. try clearing your cache when that repeatedly happens...

Was everything running slowly (web pages loading slowly) when that happened? I am convinced there is a lot of "throttling" going on after FCC voted against net neutrality and that can surely cause a 404 error.

4. Clear your browsing data, see if that helps.

5. Yeah...I thought DU was getting DDOS'd briefly this week...

...during the hearings. Given the last attack and it's timing, all should consider alternatives on election day should DU again be taken down.

6. You may have a bunch of crud in your OS.

Try CCleaner to get rid of it.

as MineralMan says, this kind of thing is almost always a local issue
a sweet paranoia-inducing local issue

9. Such problems are almost always local issues.

As people will tell you, they didn't have any problem with either site.

I was on DU most of the day and had no difficulties at all.

Any time you have an issue like that, try going to isitdownrightnow.com. Type in the URL. It will tell you whether it's down or if the problem is local to you.
