https://www.facebook.com/senatoralfranken/?hc_ref=ARTdy963R1f79GnT9dYWp7kzWfcN32h3QqsWmvgRJCtzmsHImzO0O_UrXFnSK7MNy8I&fref=nfTwo things we know about Donald Trump. Hes smart. (He was against the war in Iraq from the very beginning, hes told us). And hes courageous. He has said that he would have gladly served in Vietnam were it not for his painful, debilitating bone spurs.
Now its time for Trump to show everyone he has the smarts and the guts not to listen to Republican lawmakers who are telling him to wait until after the election to fire Attorney General Jeff Sessions. They think it will save their hides if Trump waits. But the President should take a moment to consider what it might mean for him.
The whole point behind firing Sessions is to end the Russia investigation. That means having an Attorney General who can fire Robert Mueller. Trump is rightly furious that Sessions didnt tell him that he would recuse himself before he took the job. In fact, Sessions waited until March 2, 2017, three weeks after he was sworn in to tell Trump that he couldnt protect him from this Witch Hunt.
Sessions recused himself only because the Washington Post revealed that Sessions had lied at his January confirmation hearing when he told me that he hadnt met with any Russians during the campaign. My guess is that Sessions probably believed hed get away with it, but seven weeks later the Post revealed that Sessions had met at least twice during the campaign with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak.
If only Sessions had let the President know immediately that he had lied in the hearing, Trump could have appointed an Attorney General who doesnt lie. Thats another thing we know about Trump. He hates liars.
Speaking of liars, Republican lawmakers would be lying if they said they were looking out for Trump and not themselves when urging him to wait till November to fire Sessions. How much more dirt will the Mueller investigation dig up between now and the election? And couldnt Mueller put all that dirt and everything else hes already uncovered in a report and release it on election night after the polls have closed? Wouldnt that put the whole Trump presidency, not to mention his family, at risk? Of course, it would. And the Republicans in Congress know it. They just think that Trump is stupid. And that, as discussed above, is one thing he definitely is not.
Its time for Trump to prove that hes the brilliant, courageous leader we know him to be. He should fire Sessions now! Before he looks weak and stupid.

They bleed the bull to a point of such weakness, which they do from the safety of a horse, the spears the hurt the bull with are meant to bleed him to a point where he cannot run anymore, and I have to assume that he doesn't see very well either, that because his weakness everything is foggy, he is a few minutes from fainting...then comes the "brave" matador with the sword to put the final stroke on the weak animal.
Once the animal is dead, he "bravely" cuts the poor animal's tail and walk triumphant around the arena while the women and the men shower him with roses, a feast for the hero.

(33,041 posts)Franken was shoved out without due process.
Meanwhile, on the other side, McCabe was booted 2 days before retirement for being less than frank about talking to reporters and he was booted by the guy who outright lied to Congress in order to secure the position necessary to boot McCabe.
Al Franken deserves a Congressional apology.

(88 posts)In another thread, I bemoaned the loss of George Carlin and Dave Letterman, saying I no longer had a comedian to turn to when I needed a good laugh.
I was wrong. You are one funny guy. And, more importantly, like George Carlin (and, to a lesser extent, Dave), you are spot on with your social and political commentary.
But, as much as I enjoy the laughs and your getting under Fearless Leader's skin, I... no, we... need you back in office. Preferably as president.
I really miss you, Senator. You got a raw deal, from your own. Please don't let that stop you from declaring your candidacy for the Democratic nomination for President of the United States.

(88 posts)And I really haven't given him a fair chance. I was disappointed right off the bat, and haven't watched him since. I've seen some of his "highlights", and they've been good. I do need to give him another go now that he's settled in and found his sea legs.
It's gonna be hard to be objective. Dave was so special, at least he was to me. But I'll watch with an open mind and see Colbert as his own man and not as Letterman's successor. I really liked Colbert when he had his own show; there's no reason I shouldn't like him now, especially when I'm hungry for humor. And the guy residing at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue provides fodder for a lot of laughs.
Yeah, it's definitely time to give Colbert another go.
