It takes some thought and reflection to both appreciate the man and oppose much of what he did. It challenges who we are, and how we think people have to be.

(115,661 posts)I didn't like McCain's politics and he pissed me off more often than not but I couldn't help respecting him - which is more than I can say for most other politicians, and especially the so-called president.

(9,213 posts)how to react. Sure, I am grateful for what he did in his military service, but a lot of the things they are giving him credit for, like the Obama-Arab woman he is getting credit for falsely. Sure, he stood up for Obama then...after MONTHS of him trying to convince everyone that he *might* be a muslim terrorist, and Palin was still doing it even after this and McCain never said anything.
Sure, he stood up to Trump in the media...but then he literally voted with the Repubes and Trump on everything except for one vote on the health care issue, so it's not like he was really standing up against him.
I probably haven't been this conflicted in a death in quite some time. I'm happy for him to get to lie in state and for his many decades of service to the country.
