(58,724 posts)There is still this idea out there among some folks that Trump supporters would bail on him based on something salacious like this. I think those of us who have been following him closely recognize that this is not the case. He has cheated on all of his wives, often while they were pregnant with his kids, had sex out of wedlock with porn stars and models. Bragged on tape of grabbing women and kissing them (and worse). None of it matters to his supporters.

(53,741 posts)and it's getting more pronounced with every new indictment, guilty plea and grab for immunity.
Suburban, college-educated white women are finally coming out of their fog of tribalism as the many Dem special election victories demonstrate.
That erosion scares the crap out of sitting, repug pols who will have to weigh whether their political future fares better on the trump/deplorable side of the scale or with the newly-awakened and disgusted ex-trump voters who are leaping onto the other side of the balance beam.
IMO the other side is getting heavier by the day thereby making pols more and more accountable to their opinions and less wary of offending the deplorable base which is admittedly not going anywhere but also not growing in numbers.

(9,036 posts)Against him. This story will only.galvanize opposition and even if the GOP lose a few percent of support to ensure a blue wave, he will be history.

(58,724 posts)The hypocrisy is stunning. The GOP cannot even purport to stand for anything related to "family values" anymore, can they?

To his followers he could hunt, kill, and eat human quarry on 5th Avenue. No one better flip if you want to stay in good with the Trump mob.

(53,741 posts)whereas those with buyers remorse are multiplying by the day as evidenced by the many Dem special election victories.
Disgusted suburban, college-educated white women are deserting him faster than he can grab at them.
When you think about it, we've got him just where we want himinundated with legal issues at every turn and with associates "flipping" on him daily, we don't even have to talk about impeachment. In fact, with trump and his administration unraveling before our eyes we should just let it happen and reap our benefits on Nov. 6th.
Once we have control of the House there's plenty of time to reaccess, but the need for 67 senators to convict for impeachment still has to be considered.

(48,955 posts)It needs corroboration. He's made other stuff up and said some true stuff. Mixed bag.
tRump's base is being chipped away. The core, not yet, and some will love him for their lifetime, like Roger Stone loves Nixon and got tattooed. He has hypnotized them and his mythology is comfortable for their delusions. He is a stupid person's idea of a smart person; a poor guy's idea of a rich man; a weakling's idea of a strong man.
But it is certainly true that tRump's base is not expanding and neither is his core.

(9,958 posts)They would claim that witnesses were mistaken and it is all fake news. Unless, mof course, mthe murdered person was a Democrat, then it would be justifiable homicide. Where I do see these stories having an impact (though it may be small) is with independents who voted for him (for reasons I cannot understand). They are not necessarily the evangelicals who have been told that God made Trump president and anything he does is okay. They are disturbed by his separation of familes at the border and his open embrace of white supremacy, along with his obvious illegal acts before and during his presidency.
Other Republican supporters who are unlikely to care enough about Trumps incompetence are the middle class and upper middle class who thought Trump would protect them from tax increases (which he has) and who live in their safe white enclaves. They know that Republicans will aid them in issues that are important to them, such as using charter schools to resegregate white schools that protect their children from having to associate with brown and black kids. They dont really care what happens to anyone else. I know several of these people, and they dont necessarily like Trump, but I think most of them will vote for Republicans for Congress, if for no other reason than charter schools and the use of public money for private schools. These are people who can afford the $25,000+ per year for private school tuition but want taxpayers to pay it. Selfishness is what drives Republicans, and I think nothing Trump does will get them to vote for any Democrat. Independents? Maybe.
