Rachel tonight. Fascinating.

The convoluted machinations that led to the Cohen subpoena of months ago.

Cohen was served with a new subpoena today...as a witness in New York's investigation or action against Trump's charitable organization. The NY AG, Barbara Underwood, filed a CIVIL lawsuit against the charity that was long, detailed, and actually included evidence (like images of notes) embedded in the petition, months ago.

She then sent that petition to the IRS, New York's tax dept., and another NY dept. I think it was NY tax dept that then subpoenaed Cohen today as a witness.

Fascinating programs. Rachel is excellent at connecting the dots and run down the timelines & give background.

You can't make this stuff up.

should be held accountable if those in state custody are not kept safe from all sorts of abuse.

Still, the Trump boys are not pretty.

46. Sometimes you have to take a risk in order to make your children's lives better

Like being able to feed and house them and allow them to grow up in safety.

Ivanka and Jared took that risk so they could swaddle their kids and themselves in luxury. And as you said, they've committed felonies, serious crimes with serious penalties.

48. This. I can't imagine involving one's children in crimes of any sort. But Trump himself was.

I'm sure Trump's father is the one who taught him the slippery ropes of the dark side of NY real estate. Roy Cohn, Trump's mob-connected & McCarthy-assistant mentor, completed the job. This is why Trump operates like a mob boss. He has "the family." Mob bosses always involve their grown kids in "the family business."

I'm not sure Ivanka is involved, though.

50. What I think is when Trump blamed Cohen on AF One for the Daniels payment.

Remember that? I think when Trump was asked about the payment, and Trump said he didn't know anything...you have to ask Michael Cohen. Boom. Trump was clearly going to blame Cohen for everything.

That, coupled with the huge legal fees that Cohen couldn't pay, and Trump would not help him with...that turned the guy who would take a bullet into a John Dean.

How could ANYONE not know that loyalty for Trump is a one way street? I guess it's natural for people to think they are the exception to the rule. Well, they are not. Trump is a corrupt, disloyal, unethical POS. He never takes the blame or the fall. That is who he is.

It reminds me of my History classes in college (I went back as a full time working adult so school was really important and something I very much wanted to do). The History professor I had for two semesters was amazing! He was the best teacher I've ever had, and I've had some great teachers. During his lectures we felt like we were actually living whatever it was he was talking about - The American Revolution, The Civil War, whatever it was. The way Rachel weaves a story together is absolute MUST SEE T.V.!

Remember the Trump Jr./Kushner/Manafort mtg with Russians in Trump Tower? Wasn't that in June 2016. Then this other mtg in August 2016 and a payment made?

It's possible the Trump Tower mtg was the Big Kahuna, where the plans were done, and Trump signed on and agreed to payment(s) for hacking.

55. True. But for crimes like these, there will only be rich or connected people.

The courts & juries have no problems finding guilt of rich and/or connected people for white collar crimes, and esp for crimes affecting our democracy or smack of treason.

Madoff, Ehrlichman, John Dean, and many others. But knowing something happened and proving it are 2 different things. Need hard core evidence. However, as someone on Rachel's show said, it's not hard to get evidence of white collar crimes, because there are documents involved (unlike murder and such).

https://twitter.com/NewYorkStateAG

for example:

"The Trump admin is still trying to illegally punish sanctuary cities for making law enforcement decisions according to local needs.

Iíve said it before. Iíll say it again: @POTUS does not have the authority to turn state and local law enforcement into federal immigration agents.

7:18 PM - 22 Aug 2018"

and this:

"If the Trump administrationís proposal to dismantle the #CleanPowerPlan is adopted, we will sue to block it.

Climate change is real, no matter how much this administration tries to deny it. We need strong, immediate action."

and this:

"Let's not forget, the fight for #NetNeutrality is essentially a fight to protect the modern public square.

Corporations should not be able to decide who gets to speak, what they can talk about, and how loudly they can say it. But that could be the future of the internet."
