FLIPPABLE: Ron Wesson for NC-HD01

As I enter my sixth year of public service to my community as a Bertie County Commissioner, having served as Chairman of the Board, and currently serving as Vice Chair, I have learned the importance of working with others to successfully address the challenges and opportunities that communities face.

As a servant leader, it is essential to be able to develop a shared vision that engages other leaders and resources within a community, and then to be able to articulate that vision in a way that positively impacts the lives of all citizens.

I believe that leadership across communities is really about being an effective partner who can be counted on to help find the resources and assistance to both deal with the adversities that all counties face and to help identify new opportunities that spur and support positive growth. We face a great number of shared challenges across the counties within the 1st District, but those challenges are not beyond our ability to find creative new solutions to move forward. I believe that the way forward will require a new and bolder form of district leadership. No one is going to save us but us – that simply means that we must work together to leverage the resources and opportunities within our grasp and identify shared solutions that move us forward. We must also work to convey to other potential partners across the region, State, and nation the strength and commitment of our citizens that encourages new investment and growth.

Having been born and raised here, I am a product of these communities. Any success that I have had in business and in life, can be directly traced to the investment that others have made in me. I have always been encouraged to look beyond one’s self and seek to support others in ways that I have been supported. My Mother once said to me…”Son, God has blessed you with enough sense to do pretty much anything you set your mind to do. You will find that there are a lot of much smarter people out there, but never let anyone out work you to achieve your goals”. I have endeavored to live by this advice, and if given the opportunity, I look forward to working hard for the citizens of North Carolina’s 1st House District.
