BY JASON LEMON ON 8/13/18 AT 5:00 PM
Ambassador Robert Woody Johnson called on British leaders to join the U.S. in turning up the pressure on Iran in an article penned for The Telegraph.
We are asking global Britain to use its considerable diplomatic power and influence and join us as we lead a concerted global effort towards a genuinely comprehensive agreement, Johnson wrote. Together, we can help bring about the peace and prosperity in Iran that the whole world wants to see. Johnson also called on British business leaders to side with the U.S., regardless of what their government decides.

British renewable energy investor Quercus halts 500 million euro Iran solar plant, as sanctions bite
Exclusive - Quercus pulls plug on 500 million euro Iran solar plant as sanctions bite
Reuters
By Lefteris Karagiannopoulos
OSLO (Reuters) - British renewable energy investor Quercus said it will halt the construction of a 500 million euro (445.9 million pounds) solar power plant in Iran due to recently imposed U.S. sanctions on Tehran.
The solar plant in Iran would have been the first renewable energy investment outside Europe by Quercus and the world's sixth largest, with a 600 megawatt (MW) capacity.
Iran has been trying to increase the share of renewable-produced electricity in its energy mix, partly due to air pollution and to meet international commitments, hoping to have about 5 gigawatt in renewables installed by 2022.
In June, before the U.S.-imposed sanctions, more than 250 companies had signed agreements to add and sell power from about 4 gigawatt of new renewables in the country, which has only 602 MW installed, Iranian energy ministry data showed.
Washington reimposed sanctions last week after pulling out of a 2015 international deal aimed at curbing Iran's nuclear programme in return for an easing of economic sanctions.
U.S. president Donald Trump has also threatened to penalise companies that continue to operate in Iran, which led banks and many companies around the world to scale back their dealings with Tehran.
"Following the U.S. sanctions on Iran, we have decided to cease all activities in the country, including our 600 MW project. We will continue to monitor the situation closely," Quercus chief executive Diego Biasi said in an email on Tuesday.

Independently-owned Quercus has a portfolio of around 28 renewable energy plants and 235 MW of installed capacity.

(6,288 posts)a more positive source of energy on a massive scale as this one, while Trump & Putin & the Saudis vye for dirty oil dominence, then IRAN stands out looking like the better man. Go figure!
Thing is, Iran has A LOT of its own oil.
They don't need to go solar, but for the good of the planet & perhaps to provide an alternative energy source when Putin/Trump sanctions Iran's oil out of viable production.
I despise this strong arm bullying tactic by Trump & Putin.
The US has become an ugly blot on the planet, under Trump.

(21,646 posts)I am not Islamic or even religious but I may go figure where some of this slant is coming from. I know a little
I know it's purporting to be Earth friendly in many sects of the religion
in fact the Quran makes it quite clear regarding nature's balance and the world community includes animals , water , land, to care for , and stewards protect what has been provided by Allah and to serve him, and is not a gift given to use for man is my understanding
So maybe this solar project is seen as an even balance to pumping all that oil out that
pollutes ( not really but a feelgood and at least some progress) and as you said, add the practical fall back in the future also
