America is a nation of religious diversity, as well as non-believers. Like it or not, we share this country with people of many different religious and spiritual views and backgrounds.
Christians, Jews, Muslims, Sikhs, Hindus, Buddhists, Secular Humanists, atheists, agnostics, "Spiritual but not religious"....that's just a few off the top of my head. All all represented in America's population.
Our current President has acknowledged this religious diversity. He has also, far as I can tell, respected the Constitutional separation between church and state much better than his Holier-Than-Thou, "born-again" Republican predecessor. Yet, because of the objections of certain religious authority figures and their fellow travelers on the Right (I am, of course, referencing the contraception/hospitals controversy), Obama is now, according to Mitt Romney, waging a "war on religion"?
There's nothing wrong with having religious or spiritual convictions, by the way. There IS something wrong, however, with using said convictions for the purpose of political and social oppression. I guess some people, namely Mitt Romney and his right-wing supporters, can't tell the difference.

(14,036 posts)Ask the guy who shot up the Sikh Temple. Ask the guy who shot up the Unitarians in Tennessee. Ask the guy who shot Dr. Tiller in church. That's a fucking war on religion, and it's being waged by the right.

(735 posts)What I find the most amusing, is these very same people will tell all about how bad the Muslims are,all the while they cannot see the similarities in there beliefs..
Both want to suppress womens rights
Both think homosexuality is a sin,and in some cases advocate death.
Both want governments run on a religious doctrine...
etc.......
