Its like a fire. Fires are a part of the ecosystem, part of the natural progress. And when the forest burns, its purified. There can be new growth. For there to be new growth of a conservative movement, of a right center party, the one that I joined in 1988, it needs to burn to the ground.

I feared the 8 years of Reagan would be irrevocable. And I would've fought Steve in the streets over it. Now, I see him on the same side of the coin I'm on. Different facets, but on the same side.

Warren was knocking on doors for Bob Dole, and Perry was stumping for Al Gore.
When you understand those two's realignment since then, you'll understand the past 30 years of American politics. Schmidt should have seen this long ago.
