You see how it is? Every Senator, every representative, voted for something or pushed something or recommended something that you didn't want them to do. You suggesting they should die for it is beyond the pale and does not belong here, IMO.

I've noticed.

No, I don't fight. I never fight. I point out facts.

I was doing the poster a favor. I didn't alert on his statement encouraging killing people by hanging them. I was pointing out, succintly, that his statement was inappropriate, and by way of example...I gave him a doozy of one.

If you're going to state that someone...say, you maybe....should be killed by hanging, a person should give such a statement more thought, or better yet, not say it.

But he missed the opportunity to correct his encouragement of killing someone.

People who resent another poster calling them on inappropriate statements, usually resent a factual correction.

She voted to give the President the power to do what needed to be done after Bush promised war would be the last resort. She said we have to trust the President.

47. Unless you haven't noticed they lied us into a war. They absolutely mislead the nation.

Cheney got on national TV and swore that Hussain had Atomic Weapons and that he would not only use them but sell them to terroist. When the American intelligence agencies refused to backup his claim he created his own intelligence bureau that assured us that it was a fact. I would suggest that before you start insulting people that you firstly become aquainted with the facts. Yes, I believe that costly over 5,000 of our soldiers and ten of thousands maimed for life plus thousands of Iraq deaths is something that deserves a major penality. I marched against the war with thousands of others. Were your there.

56. Yes, I know. That's not the point.

The poster was saying that someone should be executed for some war thing. No further discussion on that. Just a blanket statement. So I was pointing out that there are a lot of people on both sides who have participated in deaths because of their jobs, including Democrats. That making a statement that someone should be executed was inappropriated, to put it mildly.

I wasn't discussing why anyone voted for anything that resulted in deaths.

That was an ongoing discussion, and a retort to someone wanting someone else killed by hanging...with no discussion of why. So I responded similarly to show him...there is always something someone does regarding wars that causes death...with no discussion of why.

It was not a discussion of why the person voted the way he did...which was partly my point. Not to mention suggesting that someone be killed.

Plus, like Hillary, she's a woman...can't give 'em too much power. (Well, I might agree in the case of Kirsten Gillibrand). Which reminds me: Congressional Dems fell for stupidly getting rid of Al Franken. One down in the Senate. Now, if they just can be sure of keeping Nancy down, if they get the House back. I'm sure the Democrats can find someone less effective as Speaker of the House, as well...just need someone new and young.

Perhaps Pelosi could step down, once things are under control. There is no time for trial and error.

43. IMO, it's just the opposite. Pelosi and Schumer have not been effective.

They have a way of doing things. The way they've been doing things for many years. A sing-song way of doing things. I think they are baffled by how to act and react now and still can't grasp that they are not dealing with a normal government, now. They still think those are Republicans, when in fact, they are Trumpers. Many are neo-Nazis. Trump is not a real President, but more like a mob boss. Pelosi & Schumer can't give their standard milk toast speeches any more and expect them to resonate against a horror show of children in cages.

They're not terrible. And Pelosi can round up the votes. But that's not all that a leader does.

This suggestion didn't start w/Kristol. It's a rumbling among the base. People have noticed. Where were the strong passionate speeches by them about the children held hostage by the Republicans? Where was the pure D anger of it all? I like Pelosi. But she and Schumer do lack the passion, boldness, strategy savviness, and leadership that this critical time calls for. It's not business as usual these days.

But they'll stay. People don't give up power. And if they are unsuccessfully challenged, they'll continue doing okay. The world won't end.

I don't disagree with a lot of your post, except re: Pelosi. Rounding up votes is the main point, and a LOT of experience and savy is required. I AM disappointed with Schumer, however; never really liked him in the Senate.

5. Hey, Bill, you spent your career making the Republican Party a hot mess...

Clutch your NeverTrump pearls all you like, YOU and your fellow "responsible" conservatives turned the Party of Lincoln into the Party of Ahab, and you were fine with it right up until the part where it gave you the same treatment as you gave the Rockefeller Republicans.

And hey, how's your pal Sarah Palin these days? You guys still keep in touch?

So let's just note that given your track record, the only sensible thing to do is to heed your advice and then do the opposite.

Take some time off, Bill. Go fishing, take up painting, try your hand at building models of Gundam robots. Just take a break from media. Like, for ten, fifteen years.

7. Kristol giving "advice" to Pelosi definitely deserves an FU

Here's Rachel Maddow from 2014:

If you type “Bill Kristol wrong” into Google, Google suggests Bill
Kristol wrong again, Bill Kristol wrong everything, Bill Kristol always
wrong. Very quickly, you get to an old BlogSpot page advancing a formal
theory that Bill Kristol is always wrong. The Web site is
billkristoltheory.blogspot.com.

Last summer the media criticism Web site Mediaite finding the vehicle
for them summarizing things Bill Kristol has famously been wrong about was
to put together a “Bill Kristol is wrong” slide show. Bill Kristol said
that Nancy Pelosi had disastrously miscalculated by coming out against the
Iraq war, coming out strongly against the Iraq war before the 2006
election. He said because of that terrible miscalculation by Nancy Pelosi,
there was no chance that the Democrats would win the House in 2006.

Democrats not only won the House in 2006 making Nancy Pelosi speaker,
they also won the Senate that year.

But its time for new blood. If nothing else, the public needs to be shown that the party is evolving. Plus, all that mud dragging of her good name has left some marks, not unlike Hillary herself, and even though unwarranted, it has stuck with many on the fence.

I don't particularly value what comes out of his PNAC piehole in general, but he is giving some good advice on that issue. I think he wants to defeat Trump and Trumpism more than anyone. And is only suggesting it because it would help towards that goal. Long term, of course, he wants a more moderate Republican majority again.

Outing a covert CIA operative, tanking the economy, huge tax give-aways to the rich, prescription drug program with no ability to negotiate drug prices, the housing crisis, Hurricane Katrina, No Child Left behind, GITMO, and the Middle East more volatile and dangerous than ever. Bush was the gift that keeps on giving.

A lot of people got rich off the Bush years, they just were't quite as absurd as the Trump circus. Public servants must be held accountable for crimes against the people they serve and at a higher standard than most.

Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, and Ike must be rolling in their graves.

Were they around today, they'd no doubt follow their fellow Republican Steve Schmidt - and so many others - out of the party. And with some choice words.

46. This is so true

The GOP is the party for scoundrels and crooks. There is absolutely no ideology anymore. People keep referring to them as "conservatives", but they are NOTHING like conservatives. They are whatever serves their purpose at any given moment. They've been super bullshitters for a long, long time, but now they don't even try to pretend they are for real. Somehow, all they have to do is not be like god-forbid their opponent.

They used to put so much effort into their wordsmithing, then one day they discovered it wasn't necessary. The base is always ready and willing to buy whatever is being dished out, especially if it includes large doses of anger and hatred. The reality TV era voters are looking for Jerry Springer style drama. Too bad they can't just go brawl it out in the neighborhood bar.

She won't do it. People don't give up power. She's smart, has a stellar history, but the signs are there, to people who are looking objectively. It is time for some new leadership.

I don't expect people to concur, any more than they listened when I warned about the middle class being unduly hurt by some Democratic policies.

But the people will vote for their own interests, whether you agree with them or not.

Schumer & Pelosi are stale. People can see it in their responses (or in some cases, nonresponses) to shocking and historical events. Their belief in Trump's agreements with them behind closed doors. Their surprise at events that they should have seen coming. That's what leadership is about.

I'm older. But there is a whole crop of young, enthusiastic Democratic voters coming into the party. I don't suggest they are ready for leadership roles. But there needs to be leaders who can at least match them in enthusiasm, passion, energy, and forcefulness. It's helpful in any organization to get fresh blood. Still, people who are mature, seasoned, experienced. But a little more passion and energy and forcefulness than what we've seen out of current leadership. However, they won't step down. People don't give up power. And they are okay at their jobs, so can't say that's terrible. Just not great.

40. That's all bullshit

It's complete bullshit to say the middle class is "unduly hurt by some Democratic policies" and its also bullshit to imply that Nancy Pelosi is lacking in "enthusiasm, passion, energy, and forcefulness." Those qualities and what's not in her pants are precisely the reason the GOP fears her so much.

Age didn't seem to bother him when it was Reagan, did it?

I'm still pissed at our media for ignoring them. They put it all in writing ... & nobody cared.

42. Did anybody even ASK him? I'm gonna guess NO!

Bill Kristol's opinions are not wanted or needed by any Democratic Party members.
Keep it to yourself Billy-boy. You want to trash your own guys? I'm willing to listen.

I thought we were supposed to love the never Trumpers. Is it because he's not a regular on MSNBC? Is that why all the hostility?

71. Gotta love all the DUers in this thread agreeing with Bill Kristol

If I found myself agreeing with Bill Kristol I'd immediately make an appointment with my doctor. I'd definitely not post about it to DU because I'd be so god damned ashamed of myself. And shame on every sexist asshole for buying the Right Wing smear campaign against Pelosi. That's what leads to stupid shit like agreeing with Bill Kristol.

75. I do not agree with anything

Bill Krystol says.

But I do think it is time for Nancy to step aside for the good of the House. I have said this for a long time. Being a losing party for 8 years is not being a Leader. Her ideas keep us losing.

I want new Leaders, fresh ideas.

78. Kristol is reliably wrong pretty much most of the time . . .

But he's right on this one. Feinstein and Pelosi have failed to groom replacements to take over their political machines, and so when they go, those machines will fall apart. That helps no one.

Both leaders should find a way to gracefully pass the torch.

79. opinion/Pelosi

Men are saying this all the time about older women!!! Isn't it funny you never hear them saying older men should retire and there are a bunch of them. I think Pelosi, Walters, Feinstein and others do a fantastic job. They are fighters, more power to them. Bill Kristol go wipe your nose. You do not speak for a lot of us!!!

80. SHRED, you are a treasure.

This noise about Pelosi as Speaker is a planned talking point distraction from the RW. Smart congressional candidates are not taking the bait when pundits ask about this which is a good thing. We should STFU about it as well. The RW is using this to divide us. 11/6/18 is not an election for Speaker. Let’s pivot off of the question by saying “now isn’t the time to talk about who will or won’t be speaker, we have work to do” and move on. The RW hate Pelosi because she is a powerful effective woman leader. If Dems are baited into piling on Nancy Pelosi, then that’s a lose lose for us. In addition, I’m sick to death of powerful women being told they are inconvenient and or a liability so they should sit down and be quiet for the sake of the party...blah blah blah. Stop it.

Eye on the prize, people!
