He wanted to invade them. He never gives up on a Bad idea. Killer drones are just so USA (and failure is so Trump) and he has a line item in the budget that funds Venezuelian opposition.....a built in slush fund so to speak for murdering annoying socialists.

Our tax dollars at work.

You do understand that these were off the shelf , high end consumer drones while the US military essentially uses remote control airplanes for its missions?

They are completely different kinds of aircraft.

Info that matters?

wouldn't the use of known US military drones be a little obvious? I would think if it was a covert op, it wouldn't have been advertised with a predator firing hellfire missiles.

If a US agency was after that guy, as public as he is, he would be dead. He is not al quida hiding in some remote place surrounded by a like minded population. He puts on presentations among people that Both love him and hate him.

If the CIA was after him, they may make it look local, but they would have been more sophisticated that flying C4 loaded crop dusting drone at him in a big crowd.

as if drones were such special sophisticated tech. The fact is that if it was us, as you said, it might have looked low tech, but it would have worked and not crashed two blocks away.

The other point is, no, drones are not that special. Anyone can buy them.

Charred windows were seen near the place where President Maduro was speaking

From the BBC report:
firefighters at the scene disputed the government's version of events, the Associated Press reports.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, three of them said the incident was actually a gas tank explosion inside an apartment, but did not provide further details, the news agency says.

That includes perceived crises.

So if somebody tried to kill him, it's perceived as a crisis and action will be taken.

So if it's a false flag operation, it's perceived as a crisis and action will be taken.

So if it's just random loud noises in the background, it's perceived as a crisis and action will be taken.

It's the follow-up that differs.

If it's an assassination attempt, it'll for sure be the Venezuelan opposition with help from "the Americans" (perhaps you, perhaps me, perhaps Kushner, but "the Americans&quot . Or somebody in Maduro's inner circle that he wants gone ... Who, of course, will have helped the people from the Venezuelan opposition with help from the Americans.

If it's false flag, then framing the innocent and justifying the guilty will be among the actions. Those charged will, of course, be opposition Venezuelans with help from the Americans. Perhaps somebody in Maduro's inner circle, yada-yada.

If it's random loud noises, then making sure that the perception is maintained by suppressing the truth is among the actions. And those charged will, of course, be opposition Venezuelans with help from the Americans. Or perhaps somebody in Maduro's inner circle, whatever.

Either way, with this kind of government now that it's billed as an assassination attempt that is the Truth, whatever actually happened; and if anything to the contrary gets reported, then the governmental Truth-in-media commission that was set up will get involved.

The assailants flew two drones each packed with 1 kilogram (2.2 pounds) of C-4 plastic explosive toward Maduro, his wife and other top leaders as he spoke Saturday evening at an event celebrating the 81st anniversary of the National Guard, said Interior Minister Nestor Reverol. One of the drones was to explode above the president while the other was to detonate directly in front of him, he added.

But the military managed to knock one of the drones off-course electronically and the other crashed into apartment building two blocks away from where Maduro was speaking to the hundreds of troops, Reverol said.

There are enough in his corrupt crowd to take his place. If anyone intends to do him deadly harm, it's more likely to be the guy standing next to him applauding him at every staged rally, but really just waiting to take his place.

My bet is that the local fire department got it right.

from the reports, the drones in Venezuela carried 1 kilo of C4.

Edited to add: The agro drones at the bottom of that page can carry a 10kg payload and fly for 10 minutes with that load.

Has built in radar and tech that alters flight according to terrain. Carries the 10+KG payload, meant for crop spraying but can of course be pretty much anything.
