And the show mostly sucked.

(58,724 posts)I thought it was making the point that some R's have crossed over to our side due to the awfulness of Trump.

(58,785 posts)traditional conservatism that dominated the Republican Party before its decline into extremism and corruption? And of course before the purge of moderate conservatives.
Traditional conservatism above all fights change and protects existing institutions, and moderate conservatives formed alliances with Democrats to protect the nation from extremism. So both had to be done away with for anti-government extremists and fascists to take over and dismantle.
But as the Republican Party is collapsing, I think we're seeing a return being lead from the outside.

(58,724 posts)There definitely seems to be something happening within the Republican party that is worth taking note of, if nothing else.

(58,724 posts)And these two are great. That's the age we are in now. R's crossing over to our side in the age of Trump. I think that was the idea behind this tweet from the news director of Media Matters.

(6,351 posts)So I'm good with this. IMHO, both were Americans first and Republicans second and when being Republican meant being Unamerican, they left the Republicans behind. I may question some of their solutions at times but I think it's hard to disagree with their patriotism.
I would love for 2 Senators to look at them and see a way forward.

(58,724 posts)It's amazing to see how things have shifted for some on the R side in the age of Trump (I think that was the point of the tweet from the Media Matters news director).

(10,252 posts)I like Nicole Wallace a lot. I tape her afternoon show every day. I love her sense of humor and honesty in ridiculing the idiot Asshole in the WH. And Steve Schmidt is a real treasure. Have you listened to what they say? If you're a troll trying to get me to stop watching msnbc, give it up. We DUers think for ourselves and are good judges of people with moral character.

(7,430 posts)Anti-Trumpism plays well with the MSNBC audience, and Wallace knows how to play it to the hilt.
Once we pass through this fascist nightmare, policy differences may illuminate the contrasts between all of us. But for now, its a luxury we cant afford. As a unified force, anti-Trump voters are showing their sentiments. And thats good.

(99,710 posts)If Saul can become Paul on the road to Damascus Nicole Wallace and Steve Schmidt can change too. Rachel is one of the stars at MSNBC and consequently has clout. If she didn't want Nicole Wallace to host host her show in her absence she wouldn't.

(43,173 posts)...there have been numerous members of past Republican admintrations and campaigns who have wised up and realized this man is not good for our country regardless of party.
Sadly way more of them have been all too passive and accepting of what Trump has done.

Thats how it works. These shows all need something different to keep the audience tuned in. You cant have 9 hours straight discussing the exact same topics 100% of the time. Its bad enough that the same topics are discussed 60% of the time.
