An internal memo says the DNC has reached out to 30 million voters so far and acquired 94 million cell phone numbers of registered voters ahead of the 2018 midterm elections.
Axios: There are only 100 days until the election. Reaching voters where they are on cell phones, not landlines and connecting with new voters will be crucial to Democrats efforts in November and looking ahead to the 2020 presidential election.

(31,261 posts)Hackers have to be given a pipe by lazy or careless users of the server. One way to make things difficult for hackers is to tier access and have the highest access level protecting all key information, with encryption on all information and passwords and with trusted and skilled system people and administrators populating that level. And don't give out passwords to people that don't realize how important passwords are and how to set strong passwords.
The DNC should talk to private industry system administrators that oversee private networks that employees access from all over the world.

(60,010 posts)A lot of people still have landlines, for various reasons.
We are a 2 voter household, I have a land line, Mr. Dixie has a cell, so any cell calls go to him and he is not in the house a lot during the day.

(456 posts)I vote by mail, and every day for two weeks I received a text asking if I voted. I kept pushing the opt out option and nothing happen. I finally text them back, asking WHY were the texting me after I let them know I had already voted. The texts finally stopped but I wondered if they were really from the DNC or someone else

(905 posts)I received a call from an untrained idiot claiming to be from the DNC and I didn't believe him. He had no idea what he was supposed to do. He wanted me to answer a list of questions. I said I am a Democrat and I will be voting. He kept going back to his script. I finally screamed at him to pick any question.....................right back to beginning of script......................I told him it was dinner time on a Sunday and I hung up.
I hate that they are now calling. This is also the reason that if I donate to a campaign I send a money order. I donated to Bill Clinton and his people sent out my mailing info to every damn good works group in the country. NAACP, PETA, DNC and a shit load of other groups. They came back to me again by phone when I ignored their mailings. I told them that thanks to them I was sent mailers from other groups and another group had a more compelling story. I also hate PBS and their absolute stalking practices so I send them a money order too.
I did tell the Clinton campaign that I could not afford to send money each month and to all these groups. They seemed shocked.

(8,311 posts)... and not a true novice phonebanker.
The robots exist and they often state they can't deviate from a script. But you can hear nearly the same inflection on many repeat phrases. The voices sound professional, unaccented, not like an obvious nervous volunteer.
I can say I phonebanked HARD for Hillary and never once in any script was I asking for money. I might have said donating on the website was a way they could help if they seemed interested in the various opportunities to help the campaign, but they were almost always "Hey, just confirming you're going to make it out on election day for Hillary?"/"Oh, sorry, I will put it in you are an early voter and hope the computer saves it so you don't get any more calls."/"Oh, you're voting Republican? Well, thanks for that information and I'll note that you don't want more calls. Have a nice day!"

(905 posts)I'm sorry, I don't care. I hate feeling violated in my home. Send something in the mail. I absolutely hate all phone solicitors. Just to be clear, I have stumped for candidates in the past but I would never be on a phone bank.

(8,311 posts)Though I would much rather deal with a phone call than someone knocking at my door during dinner on a Sunday.

(905 posts)I haven't seen a stumper from the Dems since the Obama administration.
Here is the problem with phone soliciters - Once you accept a call from them you are on the hook and they can legally contact you at any time. How do we know they are who they say they are? Could have been someone from the GOP. One of my cues from the caller was that he could not name 1 person who was running in Michigan from DNC.
If a Dem stumper came to my door I would pack them up a carry out. When I was a stumper we were told to be respectful of people and would never stump during Sunday dinner. Other cues: If you hear a baby/toddler crying or babbling, keep walking; If you see many cars like they are having a party, keep walking. It's just common sense.
