The Biggest Losses To Workers Thanks To The GOP And Big Business

Working conditions today are much worse than they have ever been. The biggest loss to workers is long term employment and job security over time. The multiple career mantra is really a myth because most workers do NOT want to go to school indefinitely at their own expense. With that scenario you have no life of your own and you will likely never get ahead.

Continuity of employment and continuity of income that careers used to provide are the economic life of the worker. And secure pension is for the time that you are no longer able to work. Everyone reaches that point at some time. And the dirty little secret today is that corporations view workers over 42 as economic liabilities. That means you are on the block every year you get older after that age.

What that means is that you will reach your peak income 20 years or more before you would be eligible to retire. The actual reality is that a good many workers will be stuck in the substandard labor market working one or more jobs.

I know that I will get kickback on this issue. Here is what I have to say about that. Look around and see who is working in the big box stores and Walmart as well as other low paying businesses. I have even seen 50+ somethings on oxygen running around some of these businesses.

The GOP caused a huge shift over time since Reagan. Until Reagan a workers' highest pay came around the age of 60 just before actual retirement. It was a time of defined pension plans and Social Security. That is what the GOP, Reagan and big business have stolen from the working class in the last 32 years.
