Because the graph appears to be each months' fundraising total, and not a cumulative figure.

What do the lines represent?

Obviously, they aren't the cumulative funds raised, or the top line would not have a negative slope.

If they are funds raised per month, then the overall fundraising gap is a finite discrete integral sum.

The Y axis is not labeled, and the numbers at the bottom seem to reflect the difference in each months' fundraising total, but not the cumulative fundraising gap.

This is a bizarrely constructed graph.
