This makes me sick! Charlotte's been chosen for RNC2020

Charlotte , NC is a blue city in a blue county. Our Mayor , Vi Lyles, is a Democrat , our City Council has 9 Dem members, 2 R's

It's all about the money.

Our Mayor told us we need to be inclusive, meanwhile a black gentleman exited the City Council hearings and walked right into a gaggle of Trump supporters who proceeded to screech "White power!" and We're proud to be white " at him.
:large

It's going to be a dangerous week for people of color, LGBTQ in our city.

No other city wanted to get near this shitshow but Charlotte leaders think this will "put us on the map". Yeah, in a really bad way.

We had the RNC convention here in St. Paul, MN. What a clustercoitus that was!

"well, it's good for the hotels and restaurants" but at what price?

9. A high price. Very high.

The costs to the actual taxpayers who don't benefit at all will shock everyone. It is a totally disruptive event to host. The city will come to a standstill, I guarantee. Not a good thing.

10. Nope, we had problems hosting the Dem convention in 2012. Not enough hotel rooms.

The city of Charlotte has self-esteem problems.

Another blue city in a blue county with a blue mayor.

All of you in Charlotte, I feel your pain. You have too nice a city to deserve this!

for treasonous republicon scum. They should have it in MOSCOW, with their handlers.

Or some rural place like Salina KS, where the morons would actually welcome them.

16. Here in Denver Repugs own all the large venues

When the Dems are here, the owners charge extra, and need more (chain link freedomzones) security.

For the repugs, they roll out the red carpet and ship in the whores.

30. Lol, it was downtown my entire childhood...I

remember when they changed it.

I remember the Observer claiming (on the day after 9/11) that Charlotte was number 4 on the terrorists’ list. Being a “financial center” doncha know.

My parents and I were disgusted that even in disaster, stupid people wanted our city to be “world class” - too funny.

Most folks in the US don’t even know which Carolina we’re in!

29. Charlotte was one of the few places I went to that I stayed more in my hotel

But it is about the money. I think by 2020 things will be bad for Russian repukes. The protests in charlotte will be awful and the cost of protecting the repukes will wipe out any revenue they get from hosting the convention.

When we had the Dem convention , the big names that didn't have SS protection had to have security.

36. I lived in Charlotte for a couple of years back in the 70s and have been many times since.

It always struck me as a tad insecure, a place that deeply desired to be bigger and more meaningful than it was. Atlanta without the story or soul. And I swear it had a church on every corner-new, Protestant, conservative with some money.

I don't know if it's changed but from what I've seen in the ensuing years it's not exactly going to be a wild and crazy time.

Mr. Bear is from NC and I spent years there, mostly in Durham and Winston-Salem, both of which I like.

37. Not so many churches any more.

In fact , one of the churches has been turned into a restaurant downtown. When I first moved here I met more people from the northeast than native Charlotteans. It’s a booming city and has a beautiful downtown but Charlotte has a self esteem problem , definitely.

38. Good to know. I know NC well and it's really split.

As you said lots of people from the NE come and go at the universities and in the Research Triangle. And I love the mountains and coast. Mr. Bear’s people come from the mountains for many generations and it’s still another world. So beautiful.
