Re: The Dentist Guy

You need to take Poli Sci 101. We are a democratic republic. We express our views through our elected representatives. We are not a plebiscitary democracy as majorities are restrained by the Constitution when it comes to the rights of the individual and we don't vote on every single policy matter. We are not a pure republic as our leaders are elected, not selected.

5. Also we DO have a democratic republic.

The democratic part is at a local level. The representative republic is at the national level.

"And the United States is therefore also a constitutional republic. Indeed, the United States might be labeled a constitutional federal representativedemocracy. But where one word is used, with all the oversimplification that this necessary entails, “democracy” and “republic” both work." WP

6. Right.

The US did begin as a republic. It became a democratic republic in 1804. And it has been ever since. Republicans, of course, are aggressively attempting to change that.
