Stephen Colbert's comments last night might help open the eyes of people who don't watch the news

..."Now, Iím not ready to say that our president is a Russian agent, but I have an agent ó and he doesnít do as much for me as Trump does for Russia," adding that his agent never "swung an election for me."

To further prove Colbert's point about Trump's deep-seated obligation to Russia, he played a clip from Fox News Digital Political Editor Chris Stirewalt. "You will not stop Donald Trump from undermining NATO," Stirewalt said. "You will not stop him from realigning U.S. foreign policy to be more favorable towards Russia. He is going to do it. He is going to fly into Brussels like a seagull, is he going to defecate all over everything, squawk and fly away."

Colbert reasoned that whether you like the president or not, his motivations are undeniable at this point. "We all know whatís going on here. Trump is trying to weaken the EU and weaken NATO and break up the European Alliance, which is exactly what Russia wants," he said. "This is not a theory. This is happening in public. What we donít know is why."

The late-night host suggested that perhaps it's to finally build a Trump Tower in Moscow or to leverage Russia against China. "Or maybe Putin has a tape of him in a hotel with two hookers going 'Ahhh, daddy likes. I love it. I love it!' All of that is open to debate ó but itís the last one," Colbert concluded.

I don't watch late night TV so I have no idea whether this kind of monologue is happening all the time. If it is, normalizing anti-Trump sentiment would seem to be the flip side of normalizing Trump, which gives me hope that we aren't a total kakistocracy just yet.

I left in what Chris Stirewalt said even though those aren't Colbert's own words... it seemed like such an apt description.

5. What's sad is that a late night entertainer is saying these things so boldly and honestly

instead of our Democratic leadership.

It is time to call a spade a spade. Not a few Democrats, but our leadership and Congresspersons need to be repeating this message over and over and over again.

The GOP is controlled by Russia and serves Russian interests.
