Over 100 dead as heavy rain pounds Japan 01:23
(CNN)The rain may have stopped in Japan, but the country is facing a long recovery process after floods and landslides killed at least 90 people in the southwest.

An additional 13 people have since died from cardiac arrests, raising the total death toll to 103, according to Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga.
With emergency rain warnings lifted, the country is now turning its focus to search and rescue efforts. Police, fire departments and the military are scouring affected areas for the dozens of people still missing or unaccounted for.

Homes destroyed
Rains began late last week and intensified over the weekend. Rivers overflowed, landslides crushed buildings, and cars were swept away by floodwater.
"The record rainfalls in various parts of the country have caused rivers to burst their banks, and triggered large scale floods and landslides in several areas," Cabinet Secretary Suga said Sunday.

1. My brother is in Kyoto. The first news I had of the flood was a facebook security check saying

my brother was fine. He told me his partner and her family are safe too. So before i knew of the tragic events i knew he was safe. Facebook security checks are a great thing.

2. That is how I heard also, from a close friend in Kyoto.

With pics, then another friend in Okayama.

I called them and a few others ---all are well, but the destruction, especially around Okayama is devastating.. Kyoto, not so much.

3. My brother said Kyoto was so old it has good defences. His partner is in

Osaka but on the third floor of a concrete building. Must be hard to have lots of people there you don't know about. Vibes to you and your peeps in Japan.

5. Kyoto has a city ordinance to keep the city as much as possible

as it has been. That is one thing that makes it such a beautiful place..

Only the railway station is modern.. AND IS IT EVER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for your thoughts...

here is a little video-- not Kyoto, of course...
