I'm sorry, but I'm so tired of Harry Reid

I know he's done some great things for us behind the scenes over the
past years.......and I guess I agree on this lying thing which I hope
the fuck doesn't back fire, but we need some young blood running our
party. Even when Harry is at his best calling out the republicans on the
floor, he looks like my grandfather sitting on the front porch yelling
at the kids in the street. I know there are not a lot of dem. senators
out there to choose from, but that "Bullpucky" or whatever word he used
has got to go. I'm just saying........We desperately need some new aggressive young bloods
representing our anger, fear, dreams and hope out there.

I don't think that you need to 'behave correctly'-- I think you just need to be aware that you're displaying a pattern that we often see with our more under-the-bridge-type visitors.

I can't believe the number of people who are calling you a troll. U may or may not be one but they know they are not supposed to be accusing you of it. I wonder how many of them alerted on that?

Often new posters get the crap beat out of them in this way. You can't say anything to please them unless you just kiss their ass.

Thats what tires me; watching the political correct police, the grammar police, the troll concern police, the righteous raiders, and the snark patrol tear into posters, jumping on each word.

As far as Harry. I don't remember him doing a damned thing in the last 10 years that I could say "Go Harry" about. I don't know that you would call it just an age thing but a timid thing. And yes I too have said to myself "Show some balls Harry, show some god damned balls"

As far as what he just did. I finally get to say "go Harry" Finally some Harry balls.

I don't believe Harry is lying and yes you did sort of say that in your OP. When called on it you said Mitt was lying, but read your op and it is clear that you were saying Harry was lying and you were ok with it. I don't believe he is lying.

as for young dynamic leaders-yes we need them. We need more Al Frankens, Graysons, Weiners,Sanders. Not Young guns there but they do seem to stand up for the people. And that's what we need.

so, if you are not a troll, I welcome you. If you are a troll, it's ok with me coz I'm a troll over in freeperville. Those guys are a fucking nut riot eh? They are fun to work into a rabbid lather. And so easy to manipulate. They never suspect you once you get enough posts in.

As to thinking people are trolls, it is true that low post count would come into play. However, there are some trolls who quickly get in many innocuous posts before trying to "troll". They are still easy to identify after they do this. In part, this is because the active parts of the two sides are far enough apart that there it is almost like they speak different dialects of a common language.

I was one of the people who had no problem when over time a few self identified Republicans posted honestly - but the reaction they got made them leave. I suspect that some moderate Republicans might at this point actually fit better as Democrats - even though on some issues they would be too conservative. Here I am not speaking of elected moderates, but moderate voters. These are people that we might be able to reach for their votes for President, Senate and House.

I think that Reid is underrated here. Both Reid and Baucus got hell here for not creating a health care bill with a public option (or was single payer). While I agree that a single payer system would be better and cost less, there were not enough votes. What they did do was to craft a bill that got the needed votes by the skin of its teeth - and that bill will gradually be seen as the start of actually providing health care for all.

I know many here liked Weiner and Grayson, but neither were really doing what was needed to actually pass legislation and BOTH embarrassed us. Grayson with an ad that included an edited sentence his opponent said - where the edit changed the meaning. Doing this is wrong when Romney does it (twice already) to Obama or the SBVT did it to John Kerry. At that point, he lost my respect. As to Weiner his inexplicable irresponsible behavior led to his downfall.

I have to admit that Weiner was a stupid fool that brought about his own downfall. His photo tex ting, as if not bad enough by itself, came out while his new wife was pregnant. That made it even worse. But surely the pure stupidity in risking everything is the worst of it. However, when you get down to it,I still appreciate his politics and would welcome him back.

Grayson-I love me some Grayson and would like a dozen more just like him. Yes his ad was a blunder but that's all it was.

As to the calling out of trolls, yes I guess many of the callers have witnessed many a troll and their experience in spotting them mano doubt is superior to mine. Still I don't think this poster deserved the treatment they received here.

I do admit that the calling out of Reid now is unusual timing as the rest of us are applauding his new growth. Reid would be very effective if the two party's acted like they were suppose to, in working together to implement the will of the peoples. But the last ten years has had none of that.

I attribute his ability to take such a stand as this to Occupy. It changed the political scene and when the dems saw the republicans crack, they jumped in there. Things are changing. Not fast enough but they are changing.
I applaud Reid today.

My impression is that the median age of DUers is around 45. I'm younger than that even, 32. Pass for 25 and date 23 year olds.

I'm only as old as the woman I'm feeling.

Especially on this. Reid, with the grandfatherly demeanor, is perfect to raise this issue as he did - and the Republicans have reacted predictably with outrage.

Yet, where the Republicans usually used surrogates they could disavow, Reid is a major Democrat. The difference is that what Reid is saying is almost certainly true - someone did TELL him that Romney paid no taxes. Reid never said he had personal knowledge of that. What is clear from Romney's IRA and Cayman Islands and Swiss accounts is that Romney is not being straight in saying that he did not avoid taxes. He clearly did using aggressive methods. This is NOT to say he did anything illegal, but the bar here when running for President is not "illegal", but whether people see it as sneaky or unseemly for a President.

The Republicans are over reacting in their outrage - to an audience of moderates in the middle who are independent who certainly remember that President Bush's Texas moneymen funded the SBVT to lie about John Kerry's real heroism and sacrifice as a young man and have seen some people who are elected officials in the Republican party continue to question Obama's birth certificate although there was NEVER any basis to question where he was born.

But yes we need new blood...but that takes time...you don't just run out and pick up a nice 30 something on the corner.
I suggest you run yourself even if it is for dog catcher...get to know the job and government from the inside...or if you can't or won't then find someone you think would be good and get him or her to run.
Meantime we have a serious problem with the ones we have and we have to use what we have...and right now Harry Reid is working for us...give him credit for it.

And welcome to DU...we are not all old fogies here, just some of us are.

There's plenty that Harry Reid goes that pisses me off, but I an not about to say he should back down when he just landed one helluva punch.

170. How many Presidents took office at around 50 years old.. OR YOUNGER?
Tue Aug 7, 2012, 01:18 AM
Aug 2012

The topic of "ageism" keeps coming up in this thread.. and even had a post that maybe the "elders" know better... and you are trying to attract younger voters to the Party???? by calling them trolls....

Just a few notables...

John Tyler 51
Millard Fillmore 50
Abraham Lincoln 52
Ulysses S. Grant 46
Theodore Roosevelt 42
John F. Kennedy 43
Jimmy Carter 52
Bill Clinton 46
Barack Obama 47

Oldest President at inauguration…. Ronald Reagan 69

Average age of Democratic Leadership in 2012 = 70 years old.

Amount of President elected at age 70 = ZERO!

Ageism? Take a look at the history of elected officials. Only in the last 30 year has it becomes common for officials to stay in office.. for 30+ years. How many Democratic Leaders have been in office for MORE THAN 20 years?

Name 5 up and coming Democratic Leaders... under 40 years old.

What does this have to do with Harry Reid? I am pointing out that he has become a career politician, and I don't think that is good for the Dem Party. Yeah, great, he is standing up to Romney. I applaud the death spike Harry is handing to Mitt. Fantastic! I think Obama is going to win! I am voting for Obama! And then in 2013, I don't want Harry Reid as the Senate majority Leader, because he has been EXTREMELY DEFICIENT at rallying a caucus on... read the next part carefully. Public Option.. Ending Wars... Filibustering anything Bush did... I can go on... self-enriching spending bills... yeah.. remember THAT Harry Reid.

We deserve a better Majority Leader than Harry Reed. And that is what the OP main message was... but we have a bunch of sheep here on DU who are fawning over Harry new-found spine and calling the OP a troll for calling out Harry Reed as a week leader.

You really ought to try not walking through life in fear. Once you've mastered that, the politics of fear don't work on you anymore. And yeah, maybe you gotta survive three or four or five or a half dozen decades of crises before that happens. I can't really help you with that. That's your own journey. Mine was tough enough. But, MAN, it's a beautiful feeling when you're not afraid of what they tell you to be afraid of! When you're not looking over your shoulder in fear, you can look ahead and move forward. That's progress, baby. Way better than barging into a room and busting out with "Hey, that Harry Reid. He's old! Am I right?"

Welcome to DU.

questions remain about where he lived when he voted. He said he was living in his sons unfinished basement. I doubt that mother has ever seen an unfinished basement. Voting in an election that you do not live in is a felony, I believe.

Also seems to be a question of whether he was actually eligible to run as Governor when he did. When did he live where again.

Add to that his huge income.
His probably legal but pushing it, deductions
His tithing amount.

Maybe my kids feel the same way, although they're both pretty impressed with Reid's political skill with Romney's taxes.

But to lead he senate you have to have a lot more than youth and fire. You have to have years of experience - the kind Reid is showing today.

The kind you're talking about, that zeal and hope? Those young people ran OFA in 2008 and got Obama elected. I know because one of my sons was on the team. So you aren't wrong, just misdirected. --------->

What Reid said will not backfire because Robme will never, ever tell the truth and release his returns

He is an anal retentive. Anal Retentive people, like he is, put a high value on amassing possessions and money. They are obstinate and obstinate people dig their foot in the sand. They also act childish, like Robme did, "put up or shut up." He has a superiority air about him and has decided to just say no...you little people can not tell me what to do. But, this little people are the 99%, duh.

Anyone who won't let their kids stop to go to the bathroom, except in pre-designated spots that Robme meticulously scheduled, is no one I want to lead our country.

Romney meticulously planned the trip from Boston to Ontario....down to the stops for gas (and peeing). He told them there would be no exceptions!

Who does this? My dad never liked to stop...but hell, if someone had to pee, he would have.

This was the infamous Seamus trip. Seamus had diarrhea and it spilled on to the windshield, so Romney stopped and sprayed the window clean.

"You don't use a weak reed to prop yourself up or give you any support; chances are that bugger will bend, snap and splinter and cut your hand up like nobody's business.

When the new Democratic majority took power in the Senate in 2006 I (along with many others) expected things to slightly improve. By "slightly improve" I mean that the Senate would insist more on its Constitutional prerogatives and fend off the Bush Regime's more egregious assaults on the rule of law and common decency.

Instead I was treated with the spectacle of watching Harry Reid (D-NV) whimper and roll over faster than a Nevadan hooker at the prospect of scoring some john's gambling winnings by taking it up the ass. On virtually every subject.

Which brings me, mercifully, to the subject of Joseph Lieberman (CT-Quisling).

Instead of actually punishing Lieberman for Party disloyalty or at least giving him a wedgie, the Democratic Senate Caucus is allowing him to sail on virtually unscathed, losing a relatively unimportant subcommittee chairmanship and giving what was probably a facile, insincere apology written for him by a Republican staffer."

***********************************************************************************************************

yeah.. tough guy Harry Reid. Oh how they forget...

or maybe another example of "Dirty Harry"....

***********************************************************************************************************

Harry Reid Poll: Nevadans See Senator As "Weak"
A majority of Nevadans want a public health care option and are worried about Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's leadership on this and other issues, according to a new Research 2000 poll. Failure to pass a public health care option would make a significant number of voters less inclined to re-elect the longtime senator.

A majority of respondents called Reid a weak leader and ineffective, according to the poll. While more Republicans and independents described Reid as a weak leader, a full 47% of Democrats also had an unfavorable opinion of the Senator's leadership. Fifty-one percent of party members, meanwhile, said Reid was ineffective. Ninety-two percent of Democrats said Reid was "not progressive enough."

***********************************************************************************************************

So Harry has been in the Senate since 1987.... I am not in favor of ANY politicians serving for "20+ years"

I personally would prefer a Progressive Leader.. not a Harry Reid.

Are you new to the politics of the last few years? You haven't noticed Reid has had the President's back on getting the legislation passed through the Senate that defines his first term despite all the repug opposition. And that includes the ACA, the Lilly Ledbetter Act, the stimulus and the auto industry bail out. I live in Nevada and the way he kicked bat shit Crazy Sharon Angle's behind in the 2010 election, when everyone thought she would win, was a thing of beauty, a text book case on how to beat crazy repugs. He just ran ads with videos of her own crazy statements 24/7 and beat her easily. You should be taking notes from Harry Reid. He's got Romney's whole campaign occupied with trying not to show his taxes day after day, week after week. It's all tactics, kid. It was no lucky accident that dropped the no-taxes-paid-in-ten-years pigeon splat on Rmoney's head. It was all planned and executed beautifully by a tough in fighter who knew exactly what he was doing, having the President's back again when it was needed. And by the way, Reid is a former boxer who can probably still kick your . . . well, you know what I mean.

I tended to disagree that young kids can handle the manipulation and nuances of the political system as well as the seasoned folks. For right or wrong it is what it is. While Obama may have a brilliant strategic mind, he looks to persons like Reid for careful implemenation of those ideas. I think it's a great symbiotic tool. People don't understand, it seems, that the leaders in both chambers are selected by OUR Democratic Congresspeople. Our representatives make the decision to vote for the individuals that THEY think are best to lead them.

It's not up to us, who leads our party in the House or Senate. We don't vote for them. The ones who know how these leaders do business behind the scenes are the people--our elected representatives--who see how they wheel and deal everyday.

He's got Republicans all atwitter with his claim that someone at Bain told him Romney didn't pay taxes for the last 10 years. It may not be true, but the only way to prove it is if Romney shows his tax returns. I don't think Romney will because he is obviously hiding something much more hurtful than the harassment he's been subjected due to not showing them. If we can keep them talking about the tax returns, they won't be focused on the economy or unemployment.

Harry Reid is performing a public service. And all romneyhood has to do to put it all to rest is RELEASE THE FUCKING TAX RETURNS. Otherwise, he can't whine and moan and groan about how it's all so unfair - when it looks quite clearly as though he's hiding something.

And frankly, I don't much fancy the idea of a "president" who's busy hiding money in foreign financial hidey-holes so he can shirk his responsibility to help his country in her time of need. He should be first in line to chip in some more, since it looks as though he can EASILY afford to. Sacrifice much, mittski?

Howard Dean isn't in the senate nor has he expressed any interest in running. Your first question is meaningless.

Harry Reid isn't running for president nor has he ever shown any interest in running. Your second question is equally meaningless.

I'd happily support Senator Schumer, Mikulski, Gillibrand or Sherrod Brown if they ran for leader. However Senator Pryor, Nelson (Bill or Ben), Baucus, Casey or Landrieu would all be weaker. Regardless, who cares who you or I support for Majority Leader? Do you seriously think members of the senate gives a damn about what we think? Unless you've got a few extra milion to spare in "donations" they could not possibly care less.

For now in the real world Reid is the Senate leader doing about as well as anyone could with the spineless crowd of centrist Democratic senators he has to work with. I'm certainly not going to trash him when he's showing real fight.
