Powerful Republican Pulled Into Ohio State Molestation Scandal
3 former wrestlers say Jim Jordan was told about team doctor's sexual misconduct
Former wrestler Dunyasha Yetts says he went straight to Jordan after Strauss began to remove his wrestling shorts when he sought help for a thumb injury. He said Jordan and then-head coach Russ Hellickson spoke with Strauss, who the New York Times reports committed suicide in 2005. Yetts says it was far from the only discussion players had with Jordan, and that it was commonly known Strauss showered with players though he didn't work out.
Mike DiSabato, another player who spoke with NBC News, got detailed in an interview with CNN: "I never saw Doc Strauss ... where he didn't ask me towhere I went to see him for medicine or whatever, finger injury, shoulder, kneewhere he did not want to examine my testicles. He groped. Every time. If you wanted your meds, if you wanted to stay healthy ... so that you could stay on scholarship, you grinned and beared it, so to speak."
CNN says male members from 14 of the university's sports teamsamong them baseball, fencing, football, swimming, and trackhave levied allegations against Strauss per Ohio State. Some 150 people have been interviewed as part of the probe.

Unless he was doing something for them that many doctors wouldn't do . . .
They should be investigating whether this doctor, who wrote papers on the bad effects of steroids, was giving them to his wrestlers.
And another thing -- he was chosen to do the drug testing for the 1984 Olympics. . . .

(81,127 posts)There was the first one, Mike DiSabato, who had been the sole voice speaking up. But one of the talking heads reminded that this is how it started with Harvey Weinstein. One accuser. Then after she broke the ice, others gradually started coming forward. And that was key. I forget who it was, but the prediction was - if Mike DiSabato remains the lone voice, then it's "he said/he said." HOWEVER, if it starts to play out the way Weinstein did, then our smug, rude, nasty little in-yer-face bully Jimmy "The CON" Jordan will have a doozy of a problem on his hands. At that point, it'll be time to watch who on his side of the aisle starts throwing him under the bus. And THAT's gonna be fun!

(14,913 posts)It is perhaps not the most likely explanation (just being an entirely devoid of empathy dickhead seems more likely), but it is a very simple and straight-forward reason to keep silent about a molester -- the molester knows something about you which you would rather stay secret. You don't blow the whistle on them because if you do they'll blow the whistle on you.

(1,134 posts)Three Strauss victims and former head coach Russ Hellickson appear in a 12-minute private video, describing the abuse. Hellickson recounts telling Strauss that he showered too frequently and too long with student-athletes. I caught people having sex in our wrestling room, in the stairwell to the wrestling room, in the bathroom adjacent to our wrestling facility and I caught people in masturbation, Hellickson said. It became a real problem because it affected their mental state, a lot of our wrestlers.
Hellickson, who served as head coach from 1986 to 2006, said in the video that Certainly, all of my administrators recognized that it was an issue for me. Im sure that I talked to all of them on numerous occasions about my discontent with the environment.
One victim describes Strauss examining his genitals when being seen for heartburn.
Investigators hired by the universitys legal team have received confidential reports of sexual misconduct by Strauss from former student-athletes from 14 varsity sports teams. The investigators are also looking at whether, and to what extent, Strauss may have examined high school-aged students during his time at OSU.
