Kars for Kids is bullshit

just because I am in an ornery mood, i thought I'd get this one off my chest.

"Costly and Continuous Kars4Kids Ads Disguise Charity's Real Purpose"

https://www.charitywatch.org/charitywatch-articles/costly-and-continuous-kars4kids-ads-disguise-charity-39-s-real-purpose/179

In CharityWatch’s view, the Kars4Kids ads deceive potential donors by failing to inform them that donated cars will benefit a Jewish organization and kids of Jewish faith. Furthermore, the youth programs Kars4Kids supports promote an Orthodox Jewish lifestyle, which CharityWatch believes compounds the deception perpetrated by the Kars4Kids ads. Oorah, Kars4Kids’ “sister charity,” is the organization that actually runs the “educational, developmental, and recreational programs for Jewish youth and their families” described in Kars4Kids’ mission statement. Kars4Kids and Oorah share a principal officer, Eliyohu Mintz, the son of their founder, Rabbi Chaim Mintz, and both organizations are located at the same address in the heavily-Orthodox Jewish town of Lakewood, New Jersey. Oorah, which means “awaken” in Hebrew, “specializes in outreach to non-observant Jews, operating summer camps and other programs that seek to make non-Orthodox Jews more observant,”

Indoctrination camps more like it.

2. There are other car donation alternatives available. Most can be found locally in any metro area.

My teenage daughter totaled her 20 year old car when she hit a deer. She was the 4th driver in the family and the thing was not worth fixing. I ended up getting a small tax break. Better than hauling the thing all across town for weeks trying to save $50. Look at other options. Mine was a tech school.

As donations. They sell the cars, probably a good number for scrap, the donor gets a tax break, and the stations gets the money.

I've bought a few at dealer auctions. They don't get much for them after add on auction charges. I liked them because they have a clear title and not a junk title.

It's not as if toddlers need their own run down vehicle.

The only way to turn a vehicle in to cash, is to sell it.

I'm not sure what the motivation would be to give away money, since both honest and corrupt charities prefer more money than less, however I could imagine a viable scenario where 50+% of fee is lost to the auctioneer.

A few years ago I donated a boat trailer to one of those "donate your boat" type charities. The trailer couldn't be worth more than $100 or $200. It was really hard to sell and that's why I donated it. If the auctioneer charged $100, and the trailer sold for $200, that would be 50% fee. Which sounds really high until you look at the raw numbers.

In general however, liquidation sales, which is how donated items get converted to money, incur high fees and less than wholesale prices.

that they use for auto mechanic training. That might be a better way to dispose of an old car.
