Especially as I awoke politically to all the injustices of the Viet Nam war, Jim Crow, etc.

Makes no sense, unless then are trying to indoctrinate future or current American citizens.

I stopped reciting the pledge decades ago.

Ooooooops, sorry. That was the old (Balch) version. Not *exactly* "Ein Volk, Ein Reich, Ein Führer", but -- well, discomfitingly close.

The POA was something our Founding Fathers never heard, and evidently didn't think necessary.
