It has been noted that a record number of Democratic women are running for office this year and the message coming out of the primaries is that they are winning. But its not just the numbers that define the kind of change were seeing. Its also how theyre running. As an example, take a look at the ad just released by MJ Hegar, who is running to unseat Trump wannabe John Carter in central Texas.
snip
All of that reminds me of the introductory ad from Amy McGrath, a Democrat running for Congress in Kentucky, that went viral.
The shift that has happened was perhaps best described by Stacey Abrams, who is running to be Georgias next governor, when she said, My being a black woman is not a deficit It is a strength. Because I could not be where I am had I not overcome so many other barriers. Which means you know Im relentless, you know Im persistent, and you know Im smart. I recently took at look at how some Native American candidates are embracing the same message.
These women are tossing out the playbook for political campaigns that was written mostly by men and putting their experiences as women front and center to make their case for why voters should support them. Theyre breaking down stereotypes and talking about things that have affected women for centuries but have been relegated to the shadows.
snip
The fact that a man who put his misogyny on display for everyone to see was elected president in a race against the first woman to run for that office has stirred up something deep all across this country that didnt just manifest itself in the marches that took place on the weekend of his inauguration. I get the sense that women all over this country said, Thats enough! and put their heads down to do whatever it takes to join the struggle against everything Trump represents.
From these campaigns, we see that an awful lot of these women decided to run for office by being their authentic selves, not what the male-dominated political culture has told them they should be. Whether they win or lose, that is a game-changer.

(51,584 posts)electing women to positions of power for decades. The fact that they are women is never, ever mentioned. It is not an issue at all. The issues speak for them, not their gender. Our country is eons behind this type of thinking. Politics is still so gender and race based in the US. We are so prejudiced and biased considering how we have proclaimed to be so fair for hundreds of years.

Following her keynote address at the Womens Forum of New Yorks 2018 Elly Awards on Monday, Hillary Clinton has raised more than $1.5 million for families being separated at the border, her team confirmed exclusively to MarieClaire.com.
After taking to Twitter to urge her followers to donate to a group of 10 organizations that are fighting our country's immigration policy (a direct donation that is split evenly across each organization), Clinton was able to raise $750,000 in just one daya number that has continued to grow throughout the week, largely in part to the politician's massive social media following.
With an average donation of $60, Clinton has raised money for the American Civil Liberties Union, the Asylum Seeker Advocacy Project, the Florence Immigrant and Refugee Rights Project, and seven other organizationsall of which are fighting tooth in nail to protect children and families separated by President Trump's "zero-tolerance" immigration policy.

Our Hillary doing the very best that she can, she.. outside the Oval Office!
Don't make me cry.
She is amazing. All our Democrats are doing an amazing job. Hell they are protesting and getting arrested and have vowed to do it again and again. Actions speak far louder than words.

I didn't list all of our achievements in the last 100 years because I would be here all night.
I was born in 1976. I couldn't even imagine not being able to have my own banking account or credit card without a man's permission (snickering at the thought).
When I voted last November I received my first "I Voted" sticker. It wasn't the first time that I voted, it was the first time I got the sticker. The "I Voted" sticker was a tribute for the 100 years that women got the right to vote in my area. I plan on keeping it and hopefully passing this on to my future descendants.
I believe that a pink wave is way overdue. I love this OP. Thank you, SheShe

(83,739 posts)Welcome to DU! Good to have you here.
It has taken us a long time, not for the lack of trying as you know. Women are fighting back harder than ever. We are running in droves and we are winning. We are mothers, we are teachers, we are beautiful, beautiful creatures. These women inspire me. They are fearless.
The Pink wave is coming, mark my words.
Thank you Niagara.

(7,595 posts)Awhile ago you encouraged me to create an OP about our articulate, intelligent and dearly missed Mr. Obama
It has taken us too long to get where we are now. I like that women are fighting back and taking charge.
I'm ready for a empowering Pink Wave!!
I remember that! It was an awesome post.
Thank you, I think you are a good fit here. Keep up the good fight!

(58,645 posts)By and large, all of the women I've seen reported on are not running "as a woman." They all seem to be running on real issues that matter to their intended constituents. That is how it should be, regardless of gender. May the best candidates win, and I suspect that a large majority of the best candidates will be Democratic women.
It probably helps that there are so many new, 'non-establishment' faces, too. It's basically beating the Trumplodytes at their own game.
Here's to a sky blue pink wave.

(18,249 posts)My county is large and economically significant...we have a population twice as large as those of small states like New Hampshire and Vermont. We now have women Democrats serving as county executive and (for the first time in 100 years) town supervisor. (My "town" would be the second largest city in NYS if it were designated a city rather than town and has a population greater than that of the city of Seattle.)
My local woman's caucus is already out every weekend actively seeking Democratic vote pledges and chatting up local and national Democratic candidates, many of whom are women. Onward together!

(2,050 posts)What if we elected so many women that our country becomes what it should have always been?
And in doing so have a world where there's no more war, people are treated equally and fairly.
And the haters have to grow up or be left behind in our dust.
