They generate fake calling numbers (area code and prefix same as my number) that occasionally are a real number in my contacts.

If I have time I ask them questions until they figure out I'm not a sale and they hang up. After I've done that several times the calls seem to end for a while.

CenturyLink has a feature that requires callers to press 1 or stay on the line to be put through, figuring that most telemarketer boiler rooms don't take the time it would take.

Much better than the daily "Windows Computer Support" calls from India.

I was busy freezing blueberries and he was getting on my nerves.

If I'd started telling him what I thought, I'd still be yelling at him. I chose the blueberries. He's not worth my time.

mail voice says "hi grandma, it's your grandson Michael. I say "yeah?". He says "just kidding, it's your nephew Michael". I say "yeah?". He hangs up. I'm sorry I didn't get him before he hung up. I would have screamed into the phone "Michael, I know you're in trouble. Tell me where to send a million bucks!"😱😱

... and bomb all the call centers these calls originate from. With fair warning of course.

Automated calling systems ought to be banned.

The only commercial calls permitted ought to be those made by actual human beings using old fashioned dial phones, and each commercial call ought to be charged a minimum of ten cents.

however I notice that when I do answer with Hello, nothing happens, I decided, probably wrongly, that it is the second Hello that starts the computer message. I could be wrong but it always seems to work.

.......is that there must still be numbers of people who fall for the "Julie (or Sara or Emily ad nauseum) from Card Services" offering to "lower credit card interest rates to zero percent" because those just keep coming and coming and coming. I'm more angry with the suckers who make it worth these scammers' time to keep perpetuating these things.
