Why wouldn't Trump help Cohen if Cohen has more dirt on him?

This has been at the front of my mind ever since I heard Trump had abandoned Cohen. This just doesn't make sense to me because it's just stupid on an epic level unless there is not much more Cohen can give Muller from what they may have already found. Maybe by distancing himself from Cohen Trump thinks he looks cleaner? Trump is such an ass, perhaps his anger at Cohen for not handling things well, may have him blinded? We know Trump will easily throw someone under the bus if they are sloppy but in this instance you would think Trump would understand that keeping Cohen close is a better bet to shield him.

Help me understand why Trump would possibly throw someone who knows were all of his bodies are buried, under the bus?

If he tries to back channel Cohen, Mueller and the New York US Attorney likely have set up to intercept the attempt.

That would be the simplest explanation. He's ruled by reflex/emotion not reason/rationality.

doesn't believe that anything can touch him.

He has never in his life faced consequences for his actions beyond a slap on the wrist and a fine that he then uses as a tax advantage.

It has very likely never occurred to him that he can't bluster and lie his way out of this.

He has thrown hundreds of people under the bus. With the only consequence that he was elected president. He has never suffered any penalty for his behavior.

if he gets enough crazies behind him the REST of us will forgo 4 years of our lives bc we fear what a bunch of ratchet people can do. Problem is, for every one of them, there's three of us, and boy are we pissed as well. Look at those inbreds behind him on his "Nation-wide Tour"...Are you afraid of them? If you are....get out of the way and let the rest of us deal with them.
Strap on your Doc Martins and shine them to a mirror reflection. Cover your face like cops do, (then let them do the walkin and talkin for you. Just like Nancy Sinatra said.) Boot 'em up, and step to them.
I DO not, WILL not, fear any man. Especially a fool in a boxy cheap red hat that was made in China.
Ratchetheads and rich folks don't know how out of touch they are, until they get their shit crammed right back down their throats. Not sure about you, but, I'm ready. REAL ready, and just spoiling for a Cory L. or Mike C. to get loud on me and I'll be holding a handful of tonsil, in front of a voiceless pud-wack. D-Day...all over again. Fascists aren't welcome here.
Trust and believe.

I love you man, but, I'm going to have to slap the trump out of you, someday you'll thank me... Seriously ready to go old school on these grouchy bitches.

There are two reasons. Let's look at both.

The first is that Trump has been warned by both some republicans in both houses of Congress not to interfere with the Mueller investigation or prosecutions. More, some of the White House staff and his legal team have warned him not to. This, of course, is the lesser of the two reasons.

More importantly -- much more importantly -- Trump could only pardon Cohen on potential charges from Team Mueller and/or the SDNY. These are the federal charges that Cohen faces. It does not cover any of the charges that the NYSAG's office can file.

NYS law prevents duplicate charges, should Cohen be charged by the feds and then be pardoned. However, there are no federal charges at this point. Thus, the NYSAG can, should Trump pardon Cohen, file literally every charge on the state level, that could be filed in federal courts. And the potential sentences are, over all, pretty much the same: Cohen would be facing decades of incarceration within the state prison system. And NYS prisons are, as a rule, more unpleasant than federal prisons.

Recommended. Good question in the OP.

There is a well-coordinated effort between Team Mueller, the SDNY, and NYSAG.

The time is long past where Trump could consider investing in Cohen's defense. That would be as foolish as, say, Jared's 666 investment. I will speculate that Cohen may have some information on Jared, too!

Interestingly, Cohen tweeted earlier today, criticizing Donnie’s child-separation policy. Why would he do that if he hopes for a pardon ?. Perhaps he has decided to flip.
