General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsSo I had a little fit on Facebook today,
I have tried not to be openly political on there, but the Trump administration has pushed me over the edge.
I am not comfortable being silent with the horrors that are being done in the name of all of us Americans.
I am sure I will lose friends and maybe some relatives but this is too awful to accept. There is no decency in this government.
This place has been a "safe place", I could say what I thought and you did not really know who I am.
Well, I will continue to post under my screen name but I will not hide my real self.
May name is Alice Beth (Cook) Royce, I live in Maryville TN and I will not deny my real beliefs.

(34,131 posts)I began doing it to share stories with my husband and limited the sharing to my Facebook friends - my husband, my niece and my sister. A couple of weeks ago I changed the settings so that anyone who looks at my page sees the important news stories and links.
If real life friends see that and disagree, too bad. If they post a response that pisses me off, I block them, no exceptions. Not one real life friend has commented to me about any of my links in real life. I'm not on Facebook to discuss pollitics - I'm on Facebook to follow a few organizations and to share important stories with my husband.

(7,725 posts)Sounds like you may be upset. Don't add injury to heartache. It's perfectly ok to divulge who you are, but, in this day and age....I wouldn't. Life got to you today. It's going to be ok. If it were me though...I'd delete your OP. If you still feel that way tomorrow...then re-post it.
Sorry you had a bad day.

By the way, I am a southern girl and we often have double names so it is Alice Beth

(6,541 posts)Lately I have been much more honest and critical on my facebook page also. I post news articles and occasionally a political meme. I have never hated anyone in my life, but I hate tRump and his cabal. I have lost family members because of trumpism because I refuse to say I will support that orange a**. I hear you, and I understand. I'm there too.

(5,164 posts)For your safety etc. this site was hacked and who knows who is reading here. This is the world we live in now. If its already at FB people already know you. I post some political things there but most of my friends etc have similar political views, instagram was where I was most vocal after the election.

(7,298 posts)You would be correct in questioning their value as friends. As for the family members, that is tough. The only comfort I can offer is that you aren't alone. I have lost relationships with siblings over their support for this Administration's policies and the Shit Flinger in Chief.

(38,958 posts)I would one not get too political of Facebook, but if that path works out for the OP that is up to her. I would however, not post my name online in this or any other forum. The Handles or Screen Names are there for a reason.
Hope everyone stays safe.

(3,166 posts)Surely there are a LOT of baby boomer liberals who are nearing retirement and might be in the mood for a move. If we could channel them toward small red states we really could take em over. I agree about warm weather though! How bout we completely flip Arizona first? Its warm there! 😝😝

(34,195 posts)Register to vote when you get you N.M. driver's license.
You can also register to vote online @ https://tinyurl.com/ybakzmcm
In order to register as a new voter or update your registration online, your personal information must match the information that is on file with the New Mexico Motor Vehicle Division (MVD).
These are the things that must match:
Your social security number,
Your drivers license number or state identification number, and
Your date of birth.
P.S. I'm in Albuquerque.

Surprising (to me) are the number of foreign 'friends' who "like" the anti-Trump posts.
No big deal.

(8,646 posts)I live in a small NM town that was mostly conservative till all us liberal artists moved in and around the town about 20 yrs ago. Right now, there is a "discussion" going on. It's been ongoing for 2 days about the kids in Trumps camps. Six liberals vs two conservatives - the good thing is we are "educating" the other conservatives to some degree even if they still are loyal to Trump.
I've had a four conservative "friends" unfriend me but most haven't

Sad to say, it's not enough to be honest and hard-working, important though those qualities are. You have to pay attention, and think for yourself, and know bullshit when you see it.

So other than posting something very anti trump..or posting about animals i dont even go back to read the responses.

(58,785 posts)This just reminded me. Back in SoCal I once joined a specialty gardening club for iris lovers, but it was my "Yeah, that's another iris, right?" husband who fell in love with the group, and they with him. Go figure. Gunsmoke.
I only use FB to see family and friend photos. Never looked at FB news and now that I have I can't understand how or why anyone reads that format. I keep feeling there must be some different FB everyone goes to and I can't find.
This thread makes me think I should post a statement about this, though. I'll have to figure it out.

(2,311 posts)It's not political to share legitimate news from traditionally reliable sources. That's just curating information.
Only because of the right-wing noise machine that has told us for the past 40 years that news is just leftist propaganda does anyone have to feel that sharing news is a political statement.
Of course, there are people on the fringes of progressivism who don't trust traditional news sources, either, but that's a much smaller and much less strident crowd than you see on the right. In fact, pretty much every Republican you may see or encounter on social media will consider trusted news sources as "fake news." And that, to me, strikes at the very heart of the democratic republic we are trying so hard to maintain.

(28,117 posts)Everywhere I post. Even on fb I've always been a proud liberal and have no repub friends and very, very few religious friends. (Atheist here.) I'm simply not tolerant, so I fail at one aspect of liberalism.
Don't beat yourself up. In my book ya did the right thing.
I had to stop posting on FB years ago because I had to censor myself. Had to stop myself from attacking a wonderful guy, former DUer. I'd rather he just think I'm a minor shit for ignoring him or know I can be a major shit by attacking him.
Anyway, you live over Chilhowee Mountain and west of where I'll be moving to in Blount Co. (Walland). We live in a gloriously scenic county, don't we! Nature rocks!

(5,398 posts)I agree with your viewpoint, and am equally horrified by what is happening. I went to undergrad in Knoxville, and spent happy times driving through Maryville to and from the Smokies. I am a native Tennessean, and am a physician in Nashville. I have friends there in Maryville in the medical community that you might know.
Thank you for being here, for being decent and good, and for standing up for your beliefs and for those little ones that have no one to comfort them.

(37,648 posts)I'm having to do the same. Posts by jerks in forums & groups where I'd normally let it slide. It's time to speak up every time I see cruelty & ignorance rear its head. Not to say anything is to imply agreement. So I must. I try not to be ugly. But I have to say something, if only to point out that the film they saw is propaganda and to use their common sense & not believe it, when the free press isn't allowed into all the places to film.
We HAVE to point out what's wrong in what's going on. Now's not the time to be silent.
