Poll: Republicans Approve of Trump's Family Separation Policy

The images and stories that have resulted from the policy have ignited a firestorm around the politics of immigration once again.

Nearly every day, voters have been confronted with heart wrenching stories about immigrant children being separated from their parents upon crossing the border into the United States.

The president incorrectly blames his administration’s policy on Democrats, but regardless of his attempt to pass the responsibility, self-identified Republicans have his back, according to a new Ipsos poll done exclusively for The Daily Beast.

The poll of roughly 1,000 adults aged 18 and over, and conducted June 14-15, asked respondents if they agreed with the following statement: “It is appropriate to separate undocumented immigrant parents from their children when they cross the border in order to discourage others from crossing the border illegally.”

Of those surveyed, 27 percent of the overall respondents agreed with it, while 56% disagreed with the statement. Yet, Republicans leaned slightly more in favor, with 46% agreeing with the statement and 32 percent disagreeing. Meanwhile, 14 percent of Democrats surveyed supported it and only 29% of Independents were in favor.

Are complete nonsense. The way that is worded begs for an answer in the affirm.

The question should simply be about separating a child from their parent or parent from their child. Adding the “undocumented immigrant” qualifier adds bias and the support percent should come as no surprise. If anything I am surprised it is not higher from republicans.

This really is a pernicious and despicable program Miller put forth that trump gave the ok for. The damage separation/being caged...and who knows what else. These privatized correction companies do not have a good track record. The damage this does to a child can last a lifetime. In searching around I found a figure of ~70k children come into the US yearly (presumably with a parent). The overall figure of undocumented immigrants coming to the US at 6-7mil. So the fear of being separated from your child is only going to deter 10% if that, most likely 0%... the risk of separation vs. extreme violence, death... which is what a lot of the people are fleeing from is not a hard choice. At the end of the day these people and their children are going to be reunited and deported back to where they came from. So all this really is besides being vindictive and evil is newly an added layer for the private companies in the detention/immigration/corrections business to get more multi-million dollars contracts from the government because it only impacts a small percent of the people coming who are going to take the risk anyway given what they are fleeing and the outcome is still same as before, deportation.

I have heard several news people mention that the sites being inspected are holding boys only, no girls and ask where are girls being held at?
