It reminds me of my formal family pictures taken at Olan Mills. The photographer always had problems with us, because we would get the giggles.

The little boys on the right look like they are having fun, leaning on something and grinning widely. And the one little girl on the left is just not sure about what is going on!

Adorkable!

I heard that the kids screwed everything up at the rehearsals. It took countless times and the kids couldn't get is right and everyone was exasperated. As a teacher I am surprised they weren't better behaved since they have so many adults around to control them.

Prince Phillip told the photographer to get it completed in 25 minutes due to his health. That is not an easy job...just shows how good the photographer is.

I think it was nice that the flowers were given to the various charities that the couple support. The wedding bouquet was placed on a grave.

You know, this event brought a lot of joy to a lot of people -- many of them right here. It was an inspirational and aspirational event whose ramifications, given the biracial bride and the marvelously inclusive elements in the event because of her, will be felt for generations to come. It was transformational.

So I think it's fine for you to have your disdain for all of it, but don't imagine your view is necessarily the right one -- except, of course, for you.

"Some people can take time out to enjoy a beautiful thing and still care about the suffering of others and continue fighting for them."

I was giving a specific example of that attitude. Jackson cared about the suffering of the poor and was protesting the money spent on the moon landing. Yet, when he saw the liftoff, he enjoyed it for its own sake.

i really agree with you a ton.

Being human with this ability to do things that are not in our best interests is what complicates life.

Solving the problems you list would add new problems which would require other solutions. I think we're on a never-ending moebius strip that will introduce blocks to be overcome, perhaps multiple times.

Tribalism, racism, venality, sexism. Treating anyone not of our family/tribe as being inferior - including the animals that populate this planet.

Petulant self-righteousness is rarely relevant, regardless of who you thank for it.

What of the Rwandan subsistence farmer who sees a wedding taking place... should he too raise his fist in righteous rage and denounce all things good?

Or does that whining apply merely to you?

...Guilty as Charged.

What of the Rwandan subsistence farmer who sees a wedding taking place... should he too raise his fist in righteous rage and denounce all things good?

...Only if the farmer knows the history of German East Africa, the Belgian League of Nations, and the wreck that European colonialism made of the African Continent. Pretty people, in a nice wedding aught to shine that turd!

Or does that whining apply merely to you?

To promote a better understanding and a stronger Party through the open and free-flowing exchange of ideas (oh yeah, subject to the limitations of DU's rules against introspection)!

PS: I thought about changing to neutral pronouns but ultimately thought no one would care (certainly King Leopold II (Harry’s Great, Great, Great Uncle) didn’t care about gender when he caused the deaths of 10 million Congolese).

In the top photo I can see that both William and Harry are several inches taller than their Dad.
Never realized it, but I guess the heighth-gene came from Diana. (Also their good looks came from her.)

Meghan is so beautiful and she has awesome taste, if her choice of gown is any indication.
The entire ceremony was amazing and inclusive.

Let it go.

Because of that, I like Charles almost as much as I like Philip.

But to the point, the hat is assholic.

It hasn't been easy for Charles. And yeah, Camilla and all that.

But shit, guys - he loved HER first. He loved her pretty much ONLY. I don't know why. And I don't have to know why. And neither do the rest of us. He bowed to duty to queen and country - in marrying a suitable virgin (yes, even as recently as them, in the 1980s forcryingoutloud), the betrothed of the royal groom, particularly one who was next in line to the throne, had to be a virgin. The latest two duchesses, Kate and now Meghan, are only the first young wives who did NOT have that restriction hanging over their heads. I think it had something to do with an Old World mentality that the bride of the future king couldn't have been touched by another man. It's only in the last decade that such an old saw finally gave way.

And, what makes me smile is the idea that that, for all that rigid tradition and duty and obligation to the monarchy and the grooming for that big job that poor Charles had to deal with from childhood, he could finally marry for love, too. Granted it was a bumpy road to reach that change. Anybody ever see him as a child, brought to the train station to watch his mother ride away toward her royal duties that took her to another continent, for weeks at a time? I've seen some of those old film strips, and they almost make me cry. He was something like seven or eight years old, left behind, looking so sad and forlorn, so alone, and probably knowing he's supposed to be big and strong and not show emotion. How anybody now can begrudge him happiness with the one HE loves, is beyond me. But he finally got there, too. For whatever it's worth, it's Camilla he always loved. So seems to me it's Camilla with whom he should end up. His boys both were able to marry for love, and to feel that simple, basic, genuine happiness that all the rest of us take for granted. So why can't he, at last, be genuinely happy, as well?

in a pale, tight flesh- color swim suit with an enlarged image of Prince Harry's smiling face on the front, stretched over the woman's lower body, with his beard hairs in her lower, pubic area.

As I just wrote before, the post is inappropriate, vulgar and disrespectful to this OP on the topic of Harry and Meghan's just released official wedding portrait photos. For the second time, I ask you to please remove it, now.

But your stamping of a virtual foot and demanding someone take down a photo you don't like is bleedin' hilarious!

OK...You didn't demand, more like a stern request.

But it's still funny

After thinking about this a bit more, what's REALLY funny is that you took the time to type out a graphic description of the swimsuit you find so offensive, in case anyone else who looked at the picture didn't quite understand it!

"a very large photo of a young woman in a pale, tight flesh- color swim suit with an enlarged image of Prince Harry's smiling face on the front, stretched over the woman's lower body, with his beard hairs in her lower, pubic area."

... prince Harry is laughing hiss ass off right now, looking at the very same photo. Those nice Englishmen has always enjoyed a inappropriate, vulgar and disrespectful joke. If you want to really know his kind of humor, then read about him playing strip billiards with 6 women or playing dress-up as Hitler - but he has also been a soldier in Afghanistan. And yes, his wife knows it all. That is why she married this man.

it as I wanted to see the ceremony as it occurred. I was never a Royal Family fan but when Diana married Prince Phillip, I became a fan and followed her on media and was so sad when she died in that car crash in Paris. Since then, I always wanted to know how her two sons were doing. Harry was a maverick for a while, but he settled down. And I admire him for following in his mom's footsteps and marrying the woman he fell in love with. I know they will make a difference in the Monarchy and I feel the Queen knows that change is coming.

Good luck to the Royal couple, they are beautiful, intelligent and great humanitarians.

But I think we know Harry is a very different personality, more compassionate like Diana thank heaven!

Henry VIII was smart & ruthless like many monarchs, esp. in earlier eras. Now they're mostly ceremonial, and do little real governing.
