Since Nixon was impeached....

we have never seen such a hatred for a president. We may not like a certain person or party in control of every branch of our government. But with this thug, as Bill Maher said, he continues to get away with his scam on the country! There are solutions to fix this, but it could take several months! Hopefully, Mueller can finish that job rather sooner than later, but I want him to be complete in his findings!

1. Nixon resigned. He was not impeached. Bill Clinton was impeached for lying

about getting a blow job from his intern.

8. "Bill Clinton was impeached for lying about getting a blow job from his intern."

And if Trump had done that then we would be hearing the screams here for him to be impeached for it.

15. He was impeached for being a Democrat who stupidly gave repubs an excuse to impeach him

Unlike Obama, who was a Democrat but who the repubs never impeached (or even attempted to impeach) because he never gave them a stupid excuse to do so.

2. See boston bean's response. Your OP is OK if you modify your title slightly to...

"Since Nixon resigned under threat of impeachment..."

3. No. Nixon was not impeached.

"With his political support completely eroded, Nixon resigned from office on August 9, 1974. It is widely believed that had Nixon not resigned, his impeachment by the House and removal from office by a trial before the United States Senate would have occurred."

6. "With his political support completely eroded, Nixon resigned from office on August 9, 1974."

But Trump's support has not eroded at all, in fact it has solidified.
If, IF the Democrats take the House they can certainly go through with impeaching Trump but everybody has to know that he will never be convicted in the Senate and as bad as he is now it will be much worse after that.

If there is no Blue Tide that results in the Democrats taking the House then we will hear lots of wailing and gnashing of teeth here as well a finger pointed and conspiracies.
Sometimes it seems like impeaching and humiliating Trump is more important than retaking the House.

10. Democrats had large majorities in both Houses in 1973-74

I think they had 57 or 58 seats in the Senate and around 241 seats in the House.

Republicans pretty much stayed loyal to Nixon until the tapes were made public, then it all collapsed.

4. Only 2 presidents have ever been impeached, Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton, neither convicted.

5. Nixon was not impeached

He was listed as an unindicted co-conspirator on the case brought by the Special Prosecutor.

He resigned after Ford went to him and asked him to resign.

9. Barry Goldwater, R-Ariz., John Rhodes, R-Ariz., and Hugh Scott, R-PA

Rhodes, House minority leader and Scott, Senate minority leader. They brought the bad news to Nixon that he would be impeached in the US House, and would undoubtedly be found guilty in the US Senate trial.

I doubt that Gerald Ford had much to do with Nixon's resignation beyond confirming Goldwater, Rhodes, and Scott.

7. Nixon faced potential impeachment because his party wasn't yet so utterly treasonous.

The current iteration of the GOP doesn't give a rat-fuck about our Republic, and are happy to collude with our enemies in exchange for money and power.

11. they were also a decidedly minority party in both Houses

With a few 2 year exceptions, Democrats controlled the House every term from 1933 (FDR) through 1995 (Contract on America) and held 240+ seats in 1973-74

IN the Senate, Democrats had a 58-42 advantage.

When you control the agenda, you have a lot more power. With 58 seats, Democrats would only need 9 votes to get to 67 to convict in the senate. Now, with 49 seats, they would need 18 to get to 67 and who knows what delaying tactics Mitch McConnell would use?

16. Everyone pretty much pointed out that Nixon wasn't impeached...

...and was forced to resign. He pissed off the hard right of his party by creating the EPA, getting the Clean Water Act passed, etc. So he knew he wouldn't survive. Those are his good legacies....but his worst legacy, one he probably didn't think would last, "Southern State Strategy".

It's ironic really, the hard right didn't like him, but he's the one who empowered and allowed them to eventually take control of the party. Granted Reagan helped it along by playing lip service and Bush Sr. didn't do anything to curb it...and suffered a second term loss. That should have been the dead canary in the mine moment. But instead, the movement was embraced giving us Newt, deregulation, etc. And now, Dump.

Hopefully, this is the last hurrah.
