John Kelly said immigrants could not 'assimilate well' - so a genealogist dug up the family history

John Kelly said immigrants could not ‘assimilate well’ — so a genealogist dug up the Kelly’s family history

White House chief of staff John Kelly, made highly offensive comments about immigrants during an interview with National Public Radio on Friday.

Kelly said immigrants are: “not people that would easily assimilate into the United States into our modern society.”

-snip-

Jennifer Mendelsohn, looked up Kelly’s ancestry to prove to him and the rest of America that we all come from immigrants. Mendelsohn found out through a 1900 census bureau that Kelly’s great grandfather lived in America undocumented for 18 years and could not “read, write, or speak English.”

She revealed her findings on Twitter:

finds its way to him - if he doesn’t already know his own family history.

4. Does anyone seriously believe Melania has assimilated?

After at least a decade here, with advantages no one else has with regard to tutoring, etc., her English is most kindly described as "halting," and she lives an isolated life, her son and her parents apparently her only companions. She is, again apparently, so unaware of current American life that when she's required to make a public presentation, she has to rely on copying the Obamas. What value has she added to American culture? How has she become a contributing member of society?

7. Serving up an entree of Ooops with a side of chilled gotcha.

Yeah General, no white person should get righteous about immigrants. About 99% of us have ancestors who dived under the wire and didn't have a command of English.

8. Perhaps he's forgotten. Is there a way to get this info in gront of his racist, bigoted eyes! How ab

about times square billboard or those large type screens at ballgames. If I had a million bucks, I'd pay for it. His [trump, pence, gop party] hatred is not of all immigrants...it's for Black, Hispanic, Asian, Muslim immigrants and refugees.

13. And another thing that shows his cluelessness...

He surely has been out and about in the DC area, where I live. Recent immigrants here, generally, are very hardworking and have “assimilated” just fine, even those with lesser education, who are quite busy as painters, electricians, builders, etc., etc. Try looking around with open eyes, General.

12. English in US didnt like Irish/Germans didnt like Chinese didnt like Hispanics didnt like Muslims

Each group doesn't like the next group and wishes to shut the door on them and future groups.

Native Americans did not like being invaded by the English, French and Spanish.

14. Hell's Bells!

Even the truest of American natives didn't (and still don't) "assimilate" well with the Caucasian invaders. To this day, we have more respected treaties with nations that don't deserve a DIME of my taxes - and yet our native American populations are STILL being driven farther and farther into niche plots of nothingness.

My paternal grandad came to the USA in 1916 - to save his own butt from the carnage of WW1.

15. Kelly's Italian? There was a time when the Anglo-Saxons hated Italians

and felt they were bringing crime, murder, and disease, and were not even considered white back than. From his last name, he's probably Irish too. And there was a time when "No Irish Need Apply" was a thing. And then they claimed it was a self-fulfilling prophecy where they blocked the Italians and Irish out of honest jobs so some had to turn to crime just to feed their kids.

It should be noted that a lot of immigrants and children of immigrants have served in our armed forces. Which are currently around 40% non-white. Kelly may have been around the mostly white officers for most of his career but many of the enlisted personnel serving are not white.

16. "not people that would easily assimilate into the United States into our modern society."

I'm pretty sure that describes the Cons to a tee. They just don't believe in "our modern society" so they are trying desperately to take us back in time.
