3. One very strong opinion I held when I was younger I have been forced to reexamine.

Literacy tests. When Blacks finally got the franchise, one of the ways that they were prevented from voting was via literacy tests. This practice continued in some places until the Voting Rights Act in 1965. However, I am beginning to think that a Standardized Literacy Test might not be a bad idea. Maybe not one as hard as the Citizenship Exam, but maybe at least something that requires them to know the three branches of government what what each branch does, know who the current Vice President is and the Chief Justice of SCOTUS. Something like that. And, at the same time, for someone to qualify to run for President they do have to pass the Citizenship Exam. Would that be asking too much?

4. I think that sounds like a citizenship test.

I taught a number of severely dyslexic but bright kids who would have trouble with a literacy test but could pass an oral test on citizenship. (I equate literacy with reading fluency and comprehension.)

Plus those with vision impairment might have trouble demonstrating literacy as well.
