THE BIG STORY (not yet reported)

It is that the GOP and the Republican leadership, thru the workings of the RNC, have been financing their campaigns with Russian money. Although there was an earlier report that Mitch McConnell had set up a PAC that was financed with foreign money, the details have been scant.

When Donald Trump appointed Michael Cohen as Deputy Finance Chair of the RNC, the wheels were set in motion. As far as we know, Michael Cohen is still in that position at the RNC. Although not yet validated, it appears that the LLC that Cohen set up to pay hush money to Stormy Daniels, also had other purposes. One of those purposes was to funnel money into Republican campaigns so as to consolidate the political power of Donald Trump and to keep the Republicans in power.

This is a story almost too big to tell. One of the national Parties, the Republican Party, is in bed with Donald Trump and his Russian allies in order to finance their political campaigns. Now we can see why they have been so intent on killing the Mueller investigation and to prevent the American people from knowing the truth.

1. YUP. Avenatti said Cohen is a Renaissance man...and he went through a litany of his "talents"...he

neglected to mention his "work" with the RNC. I agree this is going to be freaking huge. I think I'm gonna pop that bottle in my fridge tonight. I've waited long enough and this is a good enough of a reason.

This is a huge fissure that will turn into an all engulfing sinkhole for pee-Resident RUMP and his corrupt Shaministration and his criminal business enterprise.

2. Sounds logical to me.

It's going to take some serious sleuthing to dig through all of that, though. Cohen needs to flip on the whole business, in exchange for a lighter sentence. I think he could be persuaded to do that, and I imagine discussions are already underway.

36. Cohen's got 3 choices:

1) Go to jail and be harassed by patriotic inmates for 20+ years.

2) Flip and tell – get out of jail – and become a taste-tester for Russian radioactive potions.

3) Flip and tell – get out of jail – and go into hiding, keeping all those amazing stories to himself.

He's in existential hell.

Cohen did some serious shit, he won't walk away from this. Neither will Cheeto or his family.
When somebody flips they still have to plead guilty to a lesser charge or charges.

Especially that obnoxious Roy Cohn wannabe tough guy Michael Cohen. Every time I think back to that in-yer-face act he pulled during a TV interview in which his every answer was a pugnacious “Sez WHO???”

“Sez WHO?”
“Sez WHO?”
“Sez WHO?”

How ‘bout maybe “sez Michael Avenatti”?

92. :) Forbes says the RNC is still smashing fundraising

records and is unlikely to want to lose Michael Cohen. Just struck me as funny. Apparently being this intensely corrupt is something like living in a fun house instead of the real world.

From Forbes' article about multiple huge scandals and potentially lethal legal disasters within the RNC, or what its headline describes as "headaches:"

But these revelations also come as the RNC continues to smash fundraising records. In February alone, the organization raised $12.8 million, the most it has ever raised in February of a non-presidential year. The RNC also continues to benefit from its relationship with President Trump’s businesses; it is holding its spring meeting at Trump National Doral, and spent a little over $271,000 at the properties owned by the Trump Organization in February, according to filings from the Federal Election Commission. Over $205,000 was spent at the the Trump National Doral in Miami, Florida, and $65,000 was spent at the Trump International Hotel in Washington D.C.

Given this relationship, and the fact that the President was so angry by the news of the raid, one GOP source familiar with the workings of the RNC Finance Committee posited it is unlikely Cohen’s role on the committee will change anytime soon. The source highlighted Cohen’s fundraising prowess, but noted that Cohen himself may not even care one way or another what happens.

“I can’t imagine the RNC punishing a guy who seems to be in the crosshairs of the special counsel’s office because of his client,” said the source. “Punishing him because of his client doesn’t seem to be an effective way to go.”

a smattering of moderate Republicans who are not involved. They may know what's going on, or may have their head in the sand and choose the denial route. John McCain would be one that is not complicit (but knows what's going on). That's why I say the RNC, and not the whole "Republican Party".

69. It's not treason ...yet. It's a ...

... great explanation of what has been going on for the last two years, but it’s still an unproven theory not yet known to mainstream America.

WE know it, and have every reason to believe it, because we are paying close attention and connecting the dots. I am always amazed that things are discussed and theorized here on this forum and others like it MONTHS before it breaks or becomes “accepted” by mainstream media. We are ahead of the curve by quite a bit. The rest of the country just doesn’t follow this stuff closely enough to see the bigger picture.

I say this to point out that once the tentacles of foreign influence have been fully exposed, and Republicans start resigning because they’re caught (not just to spend more time with the family), the support will begin to slip. Of course, many republican voters will remain loyal, but many will not once the news breaks through to them. If this shaves off 10%, it will be disasterous for Republicans in elections across the country.

Keep the faith. A reckoning is coming.

... a good number are simply uninformed. My son’s baseball practice yesterday is a good example. Every parent there - about 7 - had not even heard the story. At all. Not even a Fox version. They are simply disinterested in politics, and they don’t seek out political stories. They can talk to you all day about sports, or their job, or fishing. But not politics.

I think we political junkies often forget that we are not average when it comes to this.

83. most of their support is based on the alt reality from 30 yrs of 1500 coordinated radio stations

all dems have to do is destroy that dominating messaging advantage and their the credibility of their talk radio gods.

there will always be racists and religious extremists - they're using 1500 coordinated radio stations to amplify that bullshit into something that looks like 'popular' support - for billionaires....

trump studied talk radio in 2014, according to sam nunberg (that nunberg) as interviewed by gabriel sherman for new york magazine 4/3/16. the kremlin have been using talk radio since rove lost the white house and central control. have limbaugh and hannity been getting russian money, knowing or not, for freelance work? when limbaugh created 'climategate' saving the russian billionaires and the kochs billions by slowing climate action in 2009, it started with a russian hack of east anglia climate scientists' emails, and within days limbaugh had the out-of-context material ready to go to 'prove' global warming was a hoax, which is what trump cited even a couple of years ago. then in 2011 limbaugh spent months trying to get the US to default on its debt, ending in the sequester. would the kochs want default and that chaos?

a lot of the trump votes came from 30 years of the secondary and tertiary propaganda targets of the talk radio monopoly.

that's why it is incompatible with democracy and none of those stations should be getting any advertisers that don't enthusiastically support trump.

and generations of programmed “Ditto Heads” they control the messaging for half of America.

Add in the campaign finance corruption in Washington where anything goes to make the Donors happy, which screws our country, we have a lot to do to get back on the right track!

I agree. The actions of Republicans goes beyond trying to ram policies through congress while the country is distracted.

From Mitch McConnell stealing a SC seat, to Paul Ryan forcing the FBI to release documents from an active investigation, their actions belie the depth of their complicity in selling America out to Russia.

Midterms have never been so critical.

88. How I was raised

Raised by pro-union democratic parents always telling me that Rs were for the rich and Ds were for the poor. (One of my best memories ever before losing my Dad was watching Obama win his first time, my parents loved him.). Prior to Baptists becoming a subsidiary of the R party Kentucky wasn't so bad. People could think more for themselves, of course there always idiots, but most kids I grew up with had parents who worked their butts off to give their kids a better chance than they had. My parents didn't go to college (but both went to vocational school), but they made sure my sister and I did.

My grandmother used to tell me about walking up and down the road with her sisters beating on trash cans yelling "Roosevelt Roosevelt he's our man, throw old Hoover in the garbage can". She never got past 6th grade but was such a wise woman!

I could go on, but the most prevalent Christian Denominations in this country have been in a sick, obsessive relationship with the R's for decades now and we see the result.

Set up an equivalent to Factcheck.org called something like Labelcheck.org

"Citizens United" should be "Citizens Disenfranchised"...

"Right to Work" laws should be called "Disempower Unions" or "Right to Work for Less".

companies and slush fund accounts, and including flows through offshore accounts (e.g., Cypriot banks). He has the goods, and at some point the public will know. My hunch is that Mueller (or actually the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York) for the with Rosenstein's backing will seek indictments of the president himself based the depth and extent of Trump's criminality.

Edited to clarify that the indictments may actually come from SDNY

23. It's not just tRump's criminality. It's the entire rethuglican party to some extent.

I believe even the ones who are retiring now dipped their toes in the kleptocratic, dirty-laundered monies. If they did not all individual participate in raking in the money, they knew about it or heard rumors. I'm not entirely certain that McConnell actually believed Putin's made man was going to be able to pull out a win -or to put a finer point on it, that the "fix" would do the trick - he was happy to let their dirty money fund their nefarious shenanigans. And McConnell's party was in control of both houses of government when he decided to stonewall President Obama's SCOTUS pick for a year, because he knew he would face no backlash from the American people ahead of the *election*, so it was a good gamble to see if the stars would align just perfectly. If they lost the WH in 2016, it wouldn't have mattered much to them anyway. (Of course, it would have mattered, because Garland would have remained on the bench for essentially the rest of his lifetime, making rulings that would say, be less favorable to the donor class).

following the money, and potential access to any kind of financial records one could imagine. At this point anyone and anything that came into contact with Michael Cohen, Paul Manafort, et al is an on-ramp to the money trail freeway.

thru the NRA and other conservative PACs. That's why the republican elected pols have been actively undermining SC Mueller's work!

These republicans have feared all along that Mueller would be able to prove that the Russians financed their campaigns for several election cycles now. Receiving foreign money for a political campaign is a felony and they're all GUILTY!

Random Newspaper Editor - "Wait, wait, wait - I read on some website that some guy thinks this will all be downplayed and swept under the rug, because of "national security" reasons..."

RNR - "Well, then we obviously cannot report on this - thanks for the heads-up"

Laughable - I'm constantly amazed how seriously some people take this place...

Listen - this is probably the biggest crime committed against the US people since the assassinations in the '60s'...the gov't is STILL withholding key files and information on exactly what went down...50 FUCKING YEARS LATER...Yet, I'm in the wrong somehow pointing out that they will do the EXACT same things with these crimes???

31. "National Security" is loosely translatable as "A Crony Needs Protection/Enforcement"

The US Military has been used to brutalize, steal, cover-up, protect and enforce the dogmatic beliefs of almost too many things to ever fully understand. Central America, South America, within the Continental USA and outside to include territories and protectorates the military of the USA has been in constant use for hundreds of years now.

This is nothing "new", it is just not going to amount to a resignation for Trump and that means time spent reading, debating, hoping it will change things is wasted time.

If we do not get out the vote in record numbers in November, the experiment for self-determination is over and the new "king" and "landed gentry" will begin truly dismantling whatever they can in short order...

63. We got Trump because of all of the 'secrets'...

Prior to the 2016 election, one of the things Trump threw such a fit about was Hillary’s emails.

It’s impossible to refute an accusation about classified emails without talking about the content of the classified emails, you’re not even supposed to talk about security clearances.

Trump himself was under investigation for coordinating with Russians, but that couldn’t be discussed because it was a classified investigation.

Trump doesn’t care about the rules around such things because he’s clueless about them. Hillary knows the rules, and knows it’s inappropriate to discuss them, talks about the issues instead.

National Security is the problem when one candidate is versed in the proper protocols and the other makes claims where protocol prevents a response.

It’s not a level playing field when there is no oversight/punishment for someone who uses breaking national security protocol as the primary tool in their campaign.

<snip>
A month before Donald Trump clinched the Republican nomination, one of his closest allies in Congress — House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy — made a politically explosive assertion in a private conversation on Capitol Hill with his fellow GOP leaders: that Trump could be the beneficiary of payments from Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“There’s two people I think Putin pays: Rohrabacher and Trump,” McCarthy (R-Calif.) said, according to a recording of the June 15, 2016, exchange, which was listened to and verified by The Washington Post. Rep. Dana Rohrabacher is a Californian Republican known in Congress as a fervent defender of Putin and Russia.

House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) immediately interjected, stopping the conversation from further exploring McCarthy’s assertion, and swore the Republicans present to secrecy.

I don't think it includes Ryan. I would think it does include Ryan, going just by his behavior. But remember that accidental recording of a Repub meeting in the House...a small group of Repubs, incl Ryan, shooting the bull about Trump & such. Someone said that Trump was probably getting money from Russia, and they all laughed. It implied that they really thought that, but the fact that they "thought" that and laughed, implies that THEY were not receiving Russian money. Then Ryan said something to the effect that their mtg doesn't go any further, after all they are family, he said.

But even if they're not getting Russian money, they're more than happy for their party to benefit from it.

77. Frightening.

But fear is a motivator. If this was a Democrat thing, the USA would already be a one party situation. I've surmised this for a long time. Especially since the NRA Funding imbroglio. I'm not a praying person, but, times like this makes me kneel and align my intentions. I guess the bigger question is this, would you be ready to defend this country mano y mano? Would you take up arms to return our country to what the Founding Fathers laid out? I'm not a alarmist, but, we better start girding ourselves for the inevitable if Mueller doesn't bring the whole shooting match down, and everyone who was in on it. RUSSIA NEVER WAS OUR FRIEND. Even in WW2 we fought together bc the enemy of our enemy was our friend. Putin most likely has access to the electrical grid and other things if he can throw an American election, and an entire congressional party is on their side. Once the power goes down, life gets real hairy. No cell phones, no computers, no checking in on DU for marching orders etc. These people will burn down the country before they admit they were in on it, so, prepare for that. In wartime, depending on the situations, war deserters and traitors and enemy collaborators were lined up against a wall and shot. For good reason. It was most horrible, but, the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. Hating your country and sabotaging it from within hurts everyone in this grand nation. I'm not suggesting killing on ANY level, but, follow the above fact scenario through to its inevitable end. What are we prepared to do? Just a question.
I'm not a proponent of having guns around, especially buying new ones. But, Grandpas old shotgun and deer rifles shoot just as true. It may behoove folks to take stock and maybe set something aside. You never have to touch it again hopefully, but, what if you do? And there's nothing there? Are you ready to be frog marched to a gulag? I'm sure not. What WOULDN'T these guys do? Who exactly is on our side? I know all my local police are total right wingers. The militia around here, well, I think they'd go with the Republican side of things. What nations would come help us? France again Im sure. Britain. Then what? I'm furious that dt got elected by cheating w the sworn enemy of America, and he's been shitting on America in the WHITE HOUSE for over a year now. (Not to mention spending the treasury as if it's his own piggy bank. ugh. Fuck that!) The longer this goes on, the longer people tend to take sides. We don't have two more years of dt to gamble with. WE CAN't WAIT. The midterms are fine, but, what have each of us done so far REALLY? This is our summer of '68.
For now, focus on ONE intelligent gop, if you can find one, and hammer home what we are all coming to suspect. It starts with us. I'm not saying become a prepper, but, it wouldn't hurt us to be bold, intelligent, secure, patriot pacifists. Remember, they think every Democrat is SUCH a pacifist that if bullets fly civil war style, we would just in mass cover our heads and surrender. There is no surrender to this. A foreign enemy has make significant inroads to our way of life. If that's not an enemy, I'm not sure what is. YES the definition of TREASON fits in that paradigm. I'm pretty sure in the civil war brothers didn't want to kill brothers, but...they did. If you don't learn a lesson, be prepared to repeat it. May the Gods help us all. WTH...if aliens are due to come back...the time is coming, please...."phone home". (I jest....or do I?)
Not sure about you, but, I have soldier/airmen relatives. A few who died. Two in the Union Army. If the North has to rise again, we may have to. In war, it's kill or be killed. We have to begin to begin to think out of our comfort zone.
I so hope this is handled aggressively and quickly. We are in uncharted waters here. PLEASE Mr. Mueller. ACT SOON.

89. Time to pull the Koch Bros &their dark monied propaganda squid funnel into this

Just pull the thread of global petrofascists and the Koch Boys tumble out along with Putin Their alliance has been going on for decades IMHO.
There was a gas tax proposition a couple of years ago in Ca that drove the Kochgreedsters crazy Turns out, because Ca has a little bit of campaign disclosure laws, it was discovered that it was not just Koch $ but lots of "dark foreign money" behind the Koch led
campaign to kill the gas tax proposition. The proposition passed despite the Koch Boys campaign & their "shell group" got a fine for foreign corruption.. That revelation in that campaign was a huge alert to me. I beleive the entire Koch infrastructure is wallowing in Russian money. The Koch Bros & Putin have the same economic obsession (oil over everything) and wish for American democracy to vanish.

BTW the Koch's have gotten "the band back together" and are taking another stab at repealing the Ca gas tax. Same ads, same bullshit, same Repug creepy fringe politicians in the ads, and I'm sure same Russian money pouring in....saturation tv advertising is not cheap in Ca markets.
