Anyone else noticed something about the Chick-Fil-A lines?

Every picture I see of those lines, I notice something.

All of them white.

No blacks, no Hispanics, no Asians.

11. A "niche" market may have been accidentally created.

Many businesses don't need a spread-spectrum of people(race,whatever-orientation,politics,whatever) to succeed.

As long they appeal greatly to a particular niche. even as low as couple percentage points of the general population.

Think about it. That great rock-n-roll bar/restaurant around the corner doesn't need to appeal to EMOs, Goths or Blues aficionados to succeed.. Just rockers.

The mere perception of homophobia and "pro-family values" might have created that niche. As unappealing as it might be to us, there apparently *IS* a market. Whether you eat there or not.

We are agreed there. But say only 1 percent of the adult population has one meal a day at chick-fil-a. that's still a 7 billion dollar market. That's roughly where they are now(10 billion gross a year)

I never even thought of even going to(or not going to) chick-fil-a until the latest stink. Considering there are a couple franchises in my area and never seeing an ad myself, that's alot of free publicity. Lots of new customers now.

I can easily see it going to 2-3 percent quickly now. They didn't stand out before.

Lots of black soldiers in line. Both enlisted and officers, based on the stickers on their cars. Traffic was screwed up near all four locations all afternoon.

Near my school, it's pretty much all white. Area, Chik-Fil-A workers, CFA customers. Been there a bunch of times. Then again, it's a few blocks from where I teach and a good place to kill time after school. I have students of color who work for Chik-Fil-A, but not that one. The one closer to their neighborhood. Houston self-segregates to a scary degree, but most kids want to work closer to home.

The one near the Walmart on the way to my school? Fair number of Latinos. Fair number of whites. Some blacks. Neighborhood, employees, customers. Only have been there once.

The one near the post office? Latino owner, mostly Latino and black ... neighborhood, employees, customers. It's clientele really resembled that of the grocery store near it. Been there once, too. It just opened in July.

Hadn't realized this until this post. Sort of had to riffle back through memories and images to find the info.

Then again, I'm sort of slow that way. I've been followed by store clerks who kept asking if they could help me. Only later would I realize that I was the only non-Asian non-Urdu-speaking person in the store, or the only non-Central-American shopper. For my birthday I insisted on going to some small Honduran place where they had to scrounge to find a waitress that spoke any English. Eh. Probably a good thing. My high school students are just like me when I was a grad student: When you look for something, you find it everywhere.
