David Corn says it well....

Whatever one might think of Michelle Wolf's performance, it's clear that anyone who works for or supports Trump has no basis for complaining about vulgarity or personal insults. Your house is made of very thin glass.

3. while there were some cringe-worthy moments, nothing said was not wholely deserved.

And, looking back at past events, there were PLENTY of equally tough 'jokes' from the men, especially Don Imus, with the Clintons sitting on the dais beside him.

My own personal preference in comedians is a combination of "biting" and "cleaver", with, perhaps more "cleaver" than "biting"--but that is a hard balance to pull off. But, Wolf's is hardly a unique approach. I think she is getting more derogatory reviews because of some significant gender based stereotyping.

One things for sure, the Trumpistas deserved every word and MORE. The MSM should take some of the much deserved criticism to heart as well.

4. David Corn admirer here, but disagree that their

grave faults and sins excuse ours. I fell asleep and didn't hear her, but her words did not come over well in a transcript this morning. I was hoping her actual delivery sounded far less small and mean.

There were a couple lines that did sing even on paper, and of course I have no problem with her pointing out the media should not be giving Con-Way a megapone. I just hope that wasn't the most elevated message of her entire delivery.

Obama knows how to sling darts and javelins from his position on the heights, while always reminding people what they were. He was awesome at this.

28. "their grave faults and sins" do not excuse ours.

Very good point.

Except that we have all had enough of what the Trump administration dishes out and can't take.

Remember the Republican "debates"? They were more like cat fights in which Trump was the nastiest cat of all.

Trump's wiping or pretending to wipe dandruff off the shoulder of Macron, the president of an allied country, France, was about the rudest thing I could ever imagine a president of any country, a person in fact, doing. It was uncalled for. It was unpresidential.

Wolf's speech dished out what Trump and crew have been dishing out not only in this country but around the world since even before Trump came to power. It was well deserved. I hope it hurt a lot of feelings because the Trump administration needs to take some time for self-examination and reflection.

I agree with your post in general, but enough is enough when it comes to the crude and rude that emits from the stench in the halls of the White House since Trump has been living there.

That stench does not represent the kind and good and free America I love. It just doesn't. It's mean. Sometimes the mean bullies like those in the Trump administration can only change when they get a taste of their own medicine.

But generally, I would agree with you on your point. Just not in this case. Too much mean. Too much bullying coming out of our White House.

And Trump's absence shows that he can dish it out, but he can't take it.

34. We know he can't take it

... those of us who've seen the Correspondents' Dinner roast where Obama addressed a few funny remarks towards Donald Trump sitting in the audience. Cheeto demonstrated -zero- sense of humor or sportmanship, even though Obama was quite gentle, all things considered.

Ever since that night (I believe it was in 2012) Cheeto has been on a mission to get revenge against Obama.

He feels scorned.

His deplorable admirers feel scorned.

His regime is government of the scorned for the scorned by the scorned, and it is dangerous.

It is very angry and mean and . . . seeks to scorn others.

5. Really! When bullies like RUMP and Sarah Worthless Huckabee are heckled and taunted too, ...

and revel to others that they can't take their own medicine, run home to Mommy and Daddy why don't you?

These two people act like typical bullies, bullies who see that their target isn't backing down from their taunts, and as a matter of fact, when the intended target backfires on them, RUMP and Sarah Worthless H. will whine and squeal like a stuck pig to all who will listen to them.

Both of these persons are abusive, disgusting role models. And I told my nieces and nephews this. And you know what they said (nieces and nephews)? They readily agree, and said 'really really'!!

Wow...

11. What good does it do

to speak politely to Republicans?

We have a Jesuit pope who speaks out on behalf of the poor, on behalf of immigrants, on behalf of refugees, and he is viciously attacked by the right.

We had a Jesuit Congressional chaplain who basically said whatsoever you do for the least of my people that you do unto me, who basically said, please treat everyone the same when drawing up your tax bill. Devout Catholic, Paul Ryan, fired him.

Screw talking politely to Republicans it doesn't work.

But the Trump administration is deaf to reason or polite discourse.

I think the approach that Wolf tried might budge them just a fraction of an inch toward civility. Probably not. Probably hopeless. But at least it is a try with a different tactic.

What to do about the bullying from the Trump administration?

The Trump administration seems incapable of the kind of self-reflection and questioning, the humility that is necessary to maintain peace in human society.

It's what is really sad in our country today.

24. Republicans voted for the mean and nasty, and they got it.

Trump insulted every Republican who stood on the stage with him during the pre-campaign, Republican debates.

So now . . . what goes around comes around.

I can hardly stand to watch all the mean whether in Trump's speeches and press conferences or in Sarah Huckabee Sander's press conferences or in the appearances of the various cabinet members like Pruitt in Congress.

It's just mean and condescending all the time.

This needs to stop.

And Trump has to stop it. Sarah Huckabee Sanders too. Stop being so horrid. It is not necessary.

29. I share that exact evaluation. Just posted in another thread:

https://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=10554825

As a critique of performance, my initial reaction was negative. Kinda lame.

That critique still holds. Today after a rethink however, why the hell not. Fuck it. It falls far short of the perfection of Colberts performance, hell it wasn't even clever. Kinda blunt and unpolished. This is supposed to be a professional comedian, so I expected better than what I or the guy down the street could come up with. Oh well, now i'm thinking, fuck them. As a performance by a professional comedian, lame or not creative enough. As a stick poker, fuck it.

Two three 'jokes' though still bug me.

1. The abortion joke. Um, strange. Just ugly and strange. Is that kind of thinking common?
2. Chappaquiddick - Murder?..okay. Lazy reference because there is a movie out is all I can think of.
3.Russian threats to our electoral, information, and cyber systems are real and genuine. They cannot be overstated, imo.

Still, yes, this all will be forgotten by Wednesday.

33. Yes. The abortion "joke" and the reference to Chappaquiddick made me cringe.

She had a few good lines but her delivery was poor and her voice is unpleasant. I guess I was hoping for a more professional performance with jokes that were clever instead of just mean. Samantha Bee would have been much better. And DU produces funnier stuff every day; if she wanted good material she could have just sifted through DU.

OTOH, as you said, fuck 'em.
