Chevron redubs ship named for Bush aide; Condoleezza Rice drew too much attention

BWHAHAHAHAH! What a legacy you've left, GWB! A legacy of shame for anyone associated with you! You guys didn't even get invited to your own party!

-----------------

Leaving a wave of controversy in its wake, one of the most visible reminders of the Bush administration's ties to big oil - the 129,000-ton Chevron tanker Condoleezza Rice - has quietly been renamed, Chevron officials acknowledged yesterday.

"We made the change to eliminate the unnecessary attention caused by the vessel's original name," said Chevron spokesman Fred Gorell.

The double-hulled, Bahamian-registered oil tanker carrying the moniker of Bush's national security adviser was renamed the Altair Voyager, after a star, Gorell said.

The unannounced decision to rechristen the tanker was made by Chevron officials in late April, after "we had been in discussions with (Rice's) office," said Gorell. Asked if Rice or the White House had specifically requested the name change, Gorell said, "that's not for me to discuss."

4. The date of the article doesn't match the text.

Something is odd here.

Why would a 2001 article be saying there is a problem with a connection to Bush?

Seriously, re-read this paragraph...why would this have been posted in 2001? Doesn't make any sense...

3. "Altair" -- much like Philip Morris renamed to Altria

If there are more things to rename they better hurry because we are running out of anagrams of A A L I T R

and those are the magic letters that make people forget what the old name was.

6. It's today's website with today's weather and it's not marked a reprint

and was posted at 4 AM. I suspect a half asleep web guy posted the year the tanker was originally named as the story date.

Ooops.

However, the OP is correct. It's just one more bit of Stupid's legacy, everybody wants his whole administration to be forgotten ASAP.

7. It's very bizarre...I found articles saying it was renamed BECAUSE Condi was appointed SoS.

Yes, something is very weird here. I specifically recall when the tanker was re-named the Condoleeza Rice...it was while Bush was President, and it caused an uproar. So why would this story be dated 2001, talking about leaving the troubled Bush legacy behind? It makes no sense. Below is a great picture accompanying one of the articles you'll find via the google. Notice, there is absolutely NO Photoshopping

8. Again? How many big tubs of goo are named after that fraud?

Heh. What a odd thing to get randomly re-published.
