Are you absolutely sick of video autoplay on news and other websites? Here's some ways to disable

https://www.popsci.com/stop-videos-from-autoplaying

Note, that it is pretty easy with Chrome. If you use Firefox (as I do) scroll down the article to the part about a minor edit to the autoconfig (within firefox, not windows)... It actually was easy to do and seems to be working. Bookmark the article, just in case you want to change it back.

I just tried it on HuffPO and it seems to be working. Thank Gawd.

3. Thanks for posting

I avoid some of the local news stations website for the very reason of auto play. I try to catch up on the news in the early morning while my wife is sleeping and donít want to wake her.

4. The video auto play is really irritating for me on HuffPost

because my monitor screen is just too wide on the right and I need to move it over just to X out the video to be able to read the article that it's hiding. Besides, I am usually listening to something else while I am surfing the web.

13. Ad blockers do NOT block these autorun videos

I have both a blocker on my antiviral package AND I use Adblock Plus. Does not block these videos from autoplaying

10. yeah,but

if I remember correctly, you have to be diligent and not click any videos on Chrome, otherwise it re-sets to autoplay. then you will be scratching your head and asking why this quit working. Not to worry--you can easily re-set it.

The guy who came up with this solution is no longer working on it, as he lost interest. Google was supposed to be doing something about it. Not sure if that's come to pass yet; might be this:

https://www.hindustantimes.com/tech/google-chrome-s-v64-brings-permanent-solution-for-web-pages-with-autoplay-videos/story-ygioFmZWepmV8Pwb3jWBYN.html

Why do they assume we want some video playing? Some of us prefer to read our content. I think it's all about approximating a TV ad. Disgusts me: it's always about money.

12. I've never liked chrome (or edge or Explorer)... The solution works for firefox so that might

be an option for you.

11. chrome will at least mute them for you.....

Ad blockers don't seem to stop them, but chrome has changed the default setting on new tabs to be muted. So if you click a link, and a tab opens and autoplays a vid, it is muted. That's a LOT better than it was.

They caught hell from advertisers over that. Hopefully they won't regress it.
