1. Trump didn't suggest that the investigation into his finances/business was a "red line". He was asked that question by a reporter, and sort of said yes, in his meandering, noncommittal way. I loathe defending him (and actually I'm not), but let's stop pretending he drew this big bad red line all by himself and said "none shall pass!!".
2. More importantly, IT DOES NOT MATTER. Trump doesn't get to decide what Mueller investigates. So it is a non-issue.
The media manufactured this "red line". Let's call the media on their bullshit next time they bring it up. There's plenty of actual heinous fuckery going on all around this evil administration. Let's try and focus on that, shall we?

(82,849 posts)Trump's flouting of the prohibition against emoluments and his continued participation in his business interests while he's president means there is no red line. He hasn't divested himself from any of his holdings, he doesn't have them in trust, let alone a blind trust managed by others. He STILL hasn't released his tax returns. He's treating the presidency as if it's just another seat on the board of some corporation where he receives compensation for doing nothing but lending his name to the brand.
If someone could make out a reasonable argument for "This is where private citizen Trump ends and President Trump begins," I'd be interested to hear it. But it can't be done. There is no red line.
