Killing Skripal was a major miscalculation for Russia:

Britain is leaving the EU, abandoning a good chunk of its economic and diplomatic power.

Britain will need friends on the international stage.

An independent Britain would have been THE opportunity for Russia to make friends in Europe. A new diplomatic route. A radical redefinition of its geopolitical sphere of influence. A new power-bloc in Europe: Russia+Britain vs the EU.

And some assassin fucked that up and now Britain is mad at Russia.

Yesterday as I was listening to the news crawl on KTNF, it was referred to as "the death of Skirpal"... and this morning the same..reporting " the death of Skirpal and his daughter....", so what's going on with this reporting? They are not dead yet!

Britain and Russia have been enemies since the mid 19th Century. There was the Crimean War, the British maneuvering to block Russia from the Dardanelles, the Great Game in Central Asia, the competition over Persia, etc. In the 20th Century Britain sent forces into Russia after WW I to side with the White Army. In WW II Britain and Russia were only allies of necessity, and Churchill wanted to go further in Europe to block Russia out. During the Cold War, British and Russian spy networks engaged in clandestine operations against each other. Once the USSR collapsed, Britain exploited them economically to the maximum extent.

Besides, Putin wants to join Europe, not the UK.
