local villages. Though big game hunters often like to claim that hunting aids conservation.

it’s prohibited, and then buffer zones where natives can hunt certain animals, and then some game preserves. But a place like Serenghetti National Park has huge untended borders where the land is hard to patrol, but they try. And they hire guards from the villages around the park which is where most of the poachers helpers come from- in the hope they start to understand an income can come from stewardship of the land as well.
It doesn’t always work, but Tanzania is trying hard. Their policy on poachers is to shoot on sight, and they generally don’t report on it.... I’m not sure it’s legal, but it’s a thing “everyone knows”.

...Those assholes aren't out stalking their prey in the wild. And tragically, that activity is legal in several places.
