of "That's for me to know and you to find out."

I guess I missed the mom connection because mine never had a problem saying no.

For decades, Republicans have dinned it into our ears that for American businesses to succeed, they needed firm commitments, no surprises, and assurances of future conditions. We shouldn't do this or that because it might introduce uncertainty in the business climate, and the fearless captains of industry couldn't abide uncertainty!

Now, the very paradigm of Republican business acumen is in the Oval Office, and all kinds of things are uncertain: Will there be new tariffs on imports? Will banks be in business for themselves or their customers? Can we depend on a fair and free internet, or will service providers get to choose winners and losers on the information superhighway? So much chaos, so much up in the air. When will we know? We'll see. Or in a couple of weeks (and hope that you forget about it before then). Or in six months (meaning never).

And yet, American businesses all seem to be right on board with this uncertainty. It's just so strange. Almost as if Republicans have been lying all this time.

We'd hear a bump or crash, find something spilled or broken, and he would say "Look what happened."
