The site runs down the family's history, including George Zimmerman's birth and childhood, and even going back to the late 1970s, when his parents started dating. Robert Zimmerman Sr. also insisted his son is not a racist, defending George's claim that he shot Trayvon Martin in self-defense.
But the Zimmermans write mostly about the days after the shooting, saying they fled their home out of fear, taking only necessary medicine and a few items of clothing apiece.
Robert Zimmerman added he and his wife felt the need to move after several well-known celebrities, including Spike Lee and Roseanne Barr, published the Zimmermans' home address and phone number.
The website includes a link for supporters to donate money to help pay not only for the Zimmermans' legal fees, but also to help cover their expenses as they look to relocate.

(51,122 posts)Florida is full of gun nuts who fear their own shadow. Little chance of a fair jury.

(17,493 posts)but to me he made a poor decision when he left his truck and eventually confronted Martin, especially after being informed by a non-emergency police operator that he didn't need to do so. Had he complied with the instructions the incident would have never occurred.
I live in Florida and I have a concealed weapons permit. I do not belong to a neighborhood watch. I realize that I am not a cop nor am I a vigilante. I often see people walking down the street in my neighborhood wearing hoodies. I never have considered them as dangerous. If I see someone acting truly suspicious I would call the police but I have never had to do so.
I have no idea how the trial that Zimmerman faces will turn out. He might well walk as there appears to be no witnesses to the events immediately before the shooting. To be fair I don't know all the evidence and the decision should be up to the jury. In my opinion he does deserve a trial and I'm glad that he will likely get one.
As far as the "Stand Your Ground" law I fully support it but I do feel that it needs to be rewritten to remove the confusion and ambiguities that currently exist. It should apply only when an innocent person is attacked by an individual who has every intention of seriously injuring his victim or killing him and has the capacity to do so. Retreating in such a situation may be a poor technique. I had some training in the martial arts many years ago and none of the techniques I learned on how to disarm an indivual with a weapon involved first retreating. I also have enjoyed the shooting sports for over 40 years and I have found I have a much harder time shooting accurately while backing up. In a life or death situation facing an armed opponent or one who has a significant physical advantage who is attacking and who is obviously planing to do so despite my compliance to meet any of his demands, I feel that I should have a right to defend myself using lethal force only when necessary.
If I find myself in a heated argument that might turn violent I will walk away even if it makes me look like a coward. If my situational awareness fails me and I find myself confronted by an individual who intends to rob me, I will make a quick assessment and if I feel that he will be satisfied if I merely give him my wallet, I will simply do so. I can always replace my driver's license, my credit cards and my money. My life or my heath is far more important.
I feel that the media which is largely opposed to gun ownership, concealed carry and especially "Stand Your Ground" laws have unfairly portrayed those who legally carry concealed in a very unfavorable light. Currently there are over 800,000 people who have concealed weapons permits in Florida. If we were as evil as they suggest there would be far more incidents similar to the Martin shooting.
