(4,033 posts)These kids are PISSED!! They are a few years younger than the college students who shut down their own colleges in protest to Kent State and the Vitenam War and forced a President to decide to not run for reelection.
Call it what you want,
Something happening here
What it is ain't exactly clear
There's a man with a gun over there
Telling me I got to beware.

(14,916 posts)"An aide to a Florida state representative falsely suggested Tuesday that outspoken survivors of the Parkland school shooting were actually crisis actors.
Benjamin Kelly, district secretary for Rep. Shawn Harrison, put his thoughts into writing, emailing a reporter for the Tampa Bay Times that several students who appeared on television criticizing lawmakers on gun-control laws actually travel to different incidents when they happen.
"Both kids in the picture are not students here but actors that travel to various crisis when they happen," he told reporter Alex Leary.
Harrison said he was "appalled" and fired Kelly after being made aware of the comments.
"I was just made aware that my aide made an insensitive and inappropriate allegation about Parkland students today," he said on Twitter. "I do not share his opinion and he did so without my knowledge."....(more)

(4,291 posts)Mucking out septic tanks. By hand.
Cleaning toilets at the Greyhound bus stations. Again, without protective gear.
But those would be taking jobs from honest, hard-working people.
I wouldnt mind seeing him pushing a cart down alleys and streets, scavaging recyclables but then again, there are too many other citizens who derive their livelihood in this manner. And no doubt, his would be a stolen shopping cart.
Karma, do your thing!
And the sooner, the better.

(1,294 posts)just imagine across the nation all of these well spoken teen leaders. The GOP and ugly right wing hacks won't be able to handle all of those people rising up.
And I am proud as a late 40's dude to support them any way I can and even march with them but let it be THEIR uprising.

(1,461 posts)http://www.dictionary.com/browse/whippersnapper
noun
1.
an unimportant but offensively presumptuous person, especially a young one.
https://www.vocabulary.com/dictionary/whippersnapper
whippersnapper
A whippersnapper is someone who is younger than you are but also irritatingly overconfident and impertinent, like your little smart aleck cousin.
The word whippersnapper describes a specific kind of bratty, know-it-all kid, and it's only used by an older person who is talking about a younger person. It's a fairly old-fashioned word, having been around since the late-1600s, when it apparently arose out of "whip-snapper," which implied a general sense of lots of noise and very little importance. Around the same time, the word "whipperginnie" was a derogatory term for a woman.

(61 posts)In a few years I hope to see these students running for office. They are such an inspiration to the cruel political world we are in now. I see these kids doing great things. I live down the street from the road from the school and it has been amazing to watch these kids accomplish so much. Keep up the work and stay strong against all these SOB's taking shit about you!

(45,806 posts)I sure was nowhere near as articulate when I was a Senior in HS!
I believe they have an advantage that we older folks don't have. Most of them will be voters either in 2018 or 2020 and how the legislature handles their demands today MIGHT determine their future in Congress. I believe THAT is one reason they're getting attention now. They're new voters and if the Pubs don't do something to fix the gun laws, all these new voters will be Democrats for life.
